They unveiled a new stretch goal that was very reachable. They encouraged their fans to retweet, to maximize followers, to maximize YT views which would unlock new things in the game. They shared some developments updates, shared artwork, had some of their staff say some final words. Hyped up their ending stream (which they rehearsed) etc.

Also I see this:

Looking at the campaign you can see a VERY strong 100 tier with:
physical copy, backer-exclusive content and slipcase, plus a keychain, lapel pin, soundtrack CD (and digital album), a retro strategy booklet, and your name in the credits!

Another thing they had (appart from being on xbone/mac/linux) was aditional tiers for digital + physical.

On track for $90K+ today, so I'd go for tomorrow night (as in, the 15th). Expecting us to break the $100K daily barrier then.

I'm in the US at the moment and I've noticed the pledges slow right down after 4PM PST (midnight UK). Europe definitely has a big hand (or pockets) in this.

Yeah, didn't the original games sell poorly in Japan?

Kickstarter isnt a Japanese site so they probably dont trust it much and didnt back it. They will buy the game when it comes out at best. Even then, only people who already played the previous titles will be interested. Shenmue is a Chinese word and new eyes will probably be instantly put off by it.
