How annoyed would you be using the d-pad on the PS4?

If Sega ever releases Shenmue HD, or if Shenmue III used the d-pad on the PS4 version, would you be annoyed? I don't know if I'd be that bothered for one reason - the PS4 has a much better d-pad than either the Dreamcast and the Xbox.

Personally I think playing SIII would be weird not using modern controls, purely in comparison to newer games (and probably another reason for haters to hate), but the HD releases could work. It's possible that they'd actually feel really weird with updated controls, as the games were designed to play with a d-pad.

What do you reckon?

I wouldn't be annoyed - just confused as to why they wouldn't utilise analogue controls in this day and age. Options to use both at your choice, however, would be fine.

It'd be an interesting throwback for sure. I'd probably be okay with it, but I wouldn't mind some analogue control too.

dreamcast dpad is hugely underrated imo. never used the ps4 dpad much, but i'm sure it'll be more than sufficient. reworked controls for analogue sticks might be a strong possibility for the HD remasters. don't know how much of a headache it would be to implement though. i dread what the response will be from most modern gamers if they are forced only to use the classic controls. as unbelievably stupid as it might sound, the classic controls would be enough to enrage most modern gamers expectations and deter them from persisting any further.

I like the style of Shenmue where you use the d pad to walk in a tank style and the camera follows you and stays directly behind you, the whole dual sticks controlling camera in a 360• way isn't somthing i want in S3, maybe I'm just used to the way s1 and 2 control and i know the game control the way it does because the DC didn't have a 2nd stick but i still want S3 to play like 1 and 2 or give us an option, either way, I'm hoping for dpad movement in some way

They should just do what Capcom have been doing with their HD Resident Evil ports - offer the original and then a more "up to date" control scheme.

They will probably give us both options, I prefer the D-pad for the fighting.

It probably won't offer that because the recent RE HD ports are not new games. They're hd ports of 10 year old games that were of a different era.

This game is not Shenmue I and it's not II either. Its control scheme is going to be completely different and most likely absent tank controls. It'll probably more than likely control something like Life is Strange.

Oh god i hope not, not to get too off topic but the least in common shenmue 3 has with that game, the better, i didn't like that game at all.

Oh another digital vs analog controls thread. I personally wouldn't mind using the d-pad on the Dual Shock 4 to control Ryo in Shenmue III. It's a very comfortable d-pad, I quite like it. But obvioulsy forcing "oldschool" controls on the players wouldn't be a smart move.

UE4 comes out of the box with excellent L3 R3 player control. I can't see Shenmue 3 reversing this and going full retro D-Pad controls only. If anything, they will offer both if Suzuki was dogmatic about offering an authentic Shenmue control experience.
