The English voice acting isn't great. It's far from it, actually, but I don't really care. Playing Shenmue II in Japanese for the first time just didn't feel right to me. Corey Marshall just IS Ryo to me.

Can't stand reading subtitles, it's just distracting. Doesn't bother me when it makes sense for certain scenes or situations (Inglorious Basterds is a good example of this), but to sit through a film and having to read the entire time? No thank you. So obviously in a dialogue-heavy game like Shenmue, it can fuck right off. Dub any day of the week. Except match days, then everything else can fuck off too.

I also agree that voice acting for a game like shenmue is not cheap and I prefer just one dub.

But I don't think it'll be a smart business decision. If it was me I'll probably go with only eng, but I don't think this'll be the case.

I also can't help but notice that a lot of these prototype videos have higher quality sound effects even on a VHS source like this, like some sound effects sound clearer... i wonder if this is uncompressed audio data they were using for the promotion.
I would imagine so; they did the same with Shenmue: The Movie , did they not? I was always shocked by the difference in audio quality between the game and the movie. It was weird, but still cool to hear it presented in that way.

Ryo better be getting some coochy next game, or Ill be wondering.

Not to be getting too off topic but i myself tried the undub of shen1 and it just didnt feel right. For me Corey Is Ryo and maybe its just nostalgia but growing up with shen1 in the us and shen2 on xbox, it just feels right. Tom/Ren/Guizang/Fukuhara, all of these characters just feel right for me in english and so i prefer the games in English.
I however always saw Shen 1 and 2 as equally great in different ways.

Same for me, sorta. Dub for Shenmue all the way, but I had the Pal version of Shenmue Il on DC long before I got the xbox version. so that one has to be subbed, feels right. Sorta like an old school Kung fu movie lol

Also, the "surprise" next to Astroboy and Shenmue III is likely to be an animation.

Funnily enough, the first time I ever met him, I had absolutely no idea the vending machines even sold coffee - a combination of my lack of concentration and how hidden in plain sight they are - so I must have spent what felt like minutes scrolling through the soft drinks wondering which one would 'count' as coffee before getting him a Jet Soda or something, which he wasn't very happy about. It was only after discovering them by accident some time later did it all make sense. Now I get him a coffee every time.

The first time I had to sneak into that 'old' werehouse no. 8 to speak to Chen took me like 30+ times.

I remember just how frightening it was getting chased by guards and getting caught.

That old bigger ended up having to give me a map, it was really embarrassing lol
Same here, dude. I used to fucking dread that part every time I played because I didn't feel as if I'd figured out the solution for some time, but I could do it with my eyes closed nowadays.

The first time I played the game, I was never able to help the old woman find that person's house, primarily because I didn't have a complete grasp on the controls left.
Again, same here. Even though I now understand Sakuragaoka is really small and has a really simple layout, back when I first played the game as a nine year-old, it felt like a damned city I was lost in.

I wish I could post more, but my brain has literally flatland. It did a while ago during the day to be honest. I am going to try and get some sleep, fly home tomorrow, and then sit and try to type out anything I can remember from the past few days. It was so crazy, I haven't been able to do what all of you guys have been doing all day, and actually digesting the new information and images, as well as going nuts about them.

One thing I can remember and can be open about, is that when the "surprise" part of the confrence happened, and Cedric brought Suzuki-san back on stage, and the video of the Shenmue tree as well as the interior of Shenhuas home.... It legitimately almost brought me to tears. It's the best video I have seen yet, and I was unbelievably blown away by how faithfully it had been recreated, down to the last pot and pan. That blew my mind beyond words, and it's the video that has filled me with the most confidence about this game yet.

Isn't it just wonderful how we can all come together and relish in the sweet fact that shenmue 3 is happening and that the brand is relevant. Incredible, this series is so special. There's no feeling quite like it :-)

- The story is 95% done, but none of the actual in-game content is finished as of now.
- He wishes to implement an advanced QTE system that incorporates elements of the FREE battle system, but doesn't know if he'll have enough development time to do so.
- Shenmue III takes place almost immediately after II. No time-skip as some people feared.
- Shenmue III will retain the detective style gameplay, but certain systems will evolve over time and change things up.

Cedric -

- If Shenmue III is a modest hit it'll likely ensure the future of the series, but it cannot be said for sure.
- Cedric's initial crazy idea for Shenmue III would be to make it for the Dreamcast, but it wouldn't be cost effective at all unless they sold each copy for a whole lot of money.
- Shenmue assets owned by SEGA require negotiation before they are used. (My theory: This likely includes the old logo, and the reason the Papyrus logo exists is to have a logo that can be used quickly without having to negotiate with SEGA)
- Kickstarter rewards all have prototypes, but the images won't be shared with backers for now.
- So far they don't have any plans to show off Shenmue III at E3 2016.

So, after thinking long and hard about whether or not to give more money to the Shenmue 3 PayPal campaign or attend MM next year, I've decided to go with the latter. I have never been to an event like it before, nor Monaco for that matter, and as much as I would love to give more to the development costs, I feel like I have done enough (not to sound selfish). I want to be there at what's supposed to be the next official glimpse of Shenmue 3.

I wasn't sure wetter or not to go since I would be travelling alone, to a place I've never been before, but I am used to that. I just don't know much french at all and I am already learning Japanese so I very much doubt I can handle learning 2 languages at once! I am only really going to hopefully see Shenmue 3, and I think Suzuki-San is also giving a conference at the event. If I didn't get in I wouldn't want it be a wasted journey.
I know Yu is also doing a Q&A as well as an autograph session, but I don't know about meeting him before the dinner in 2016.

So is anyone planning on attending? MM have a list of hotels on their site close to the conference centre, so all being well, I will probably book into one on Monday.

I like the style of Shenmue where you use the d pad to walk in a tank style and the camera follows you and stays directly behind you, the whole dual sticks controlling camera in a 360• way isn't somthing i want in S3, maybe I'm just used to the way s1 and 2 control and i know the game control the way it does because the DC didn't have a 2nd stick but i still want S3 to play like 1 and 2 or give us an option, either way, I'm hoping for dpad movement in some way

Honestly, I don't mind about controlling Ryo with an analog stick.
On the other hand, I totally agree with you regarding the camera stick. IT SHOULD NOT BE A 360° WAY!!! The camera control that we currently know in Shenmue is an important part of immersion and core of the FREE mode . It should stay 180° way like a real human looking around him, with possibility to focus on specific items with a trigger. But no more, I really don't want a 360° camera à la GTA/Yakuza/etc which would not be "Shenmue-style" and would totally alterate the experience.

That's about what it looks like in Demul, which is very impressive in my opinion. I've been using it so much lately for my Shenmue: The Movie project that I forgot what Shenmue looks like on the Dreamcast. I pulled it out the other day to test the "new" CRT I just got, and now I don't know if I can go back (from Demul).

I did the honors myself. I basically kept reloading the site using proxies and voted for Shenmue 50 times!!!

You need to run it in 6x internal resolution for 4K resolution. It is possible with the given hardware but it won't always be able to maintain a steady framerate.

Its cool that cedric wanted shenmue 3 on dc but yeah, that would have been suicide in terms of sales, HOWEVER, i would have loved if Shenmue 3 was on ps4/pc with retro DC graphics ala megaman 9/10. I mean there is a market for retro indie games so it could've work.. Modern UE4 graphics are fine and all but theres just something for me on how Shenmue 1 and 2 look that its unmatched from everything imo.


Exactly, I just see that as wasted development capital. With such small demand for it given the current DC install base and subsequent lack of future availability, it's purely a ultra fan boys wet dream. Don't get me wrong, I'd love nothing for it to happen myself as I count myself as a DC romantic, but the realist in me wants Shenmue 4 to succeed in every possible way and therefore any resources diverted from an excellent PS4/PC Shemue 3 release to a relic platform would be as you say, financial suicide. :agrue: #-o

In fact, the possibility of Shenmue 3/4 on the Dreamcast 2 seems more of a probability than a port of Shenmue 3 to the Dreamcast platform given the 16 year technical challenges. Whereas these are only possibilities on a Dreamcast 2. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. \:D/
