Re: Demul v0.7 alpha released. (Dreamcast Emulator)

This is the error I get when I click 'Run Dreamcast'

http://s9.postimg.org/6ws39rqb3/demul_error.png

It's probably something stupid but I can't find any reference for this error online. Have you guys seen this before?
Extract this https://www.dropbox.com/s/y4zrujkgjrdaqmz/roms.rar?dl=0 in demul root folder, these are BIOS files

The new graphics plugin is not so hot. Framerate is displayed as 30 but it runs chuggy somehow.
And the old DX11 plugin is completely broken, at least for me. No textures! Never seen Shenmue II like this.

This is very weird  , as Chowchilla said, try to update DirectX and make sure that your card driver doesn't have control over application settings globally. also install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a7b7a05e-6de6-4d3a-a423-37bf0912db84&displaylang=en) if you haven't yet.. and clear "scache" folder in Demul

Re: Shenmue 1 and 2 widescreen hacks Dreamcast

I'll try to summarize and explain the best I can :) how to use it on DEmul and NullDC using Cheat engine.

Cheat Engine Download: http://www.cheatengine.org/downloads.php

Prepare emulators: choose
In DEmul: Config->Video-> aspect ratio: 16:9
In NullDC: Options->PowerVR->aspect ratio->Stretch
Start your game.
In Cheat Engine open process with your emulator
Click "add address manually" and add address according to your game and emulator from list below,
also make sure that type is set to 4 bytes !!
DEmul:
Shenmue (PAL)
2C231EF8

Shenmue (US version)
2C230250

Shenmue Undub
2C231EF8

Shenmue 2 (EU version)
2C31186C

Shenmue 2 (JPN)
2C30D67C

What's Shenmue (JPN)
2C20BB68
NullDC:
Shenmue (PAL)
1C251EF8

Shenmue (US version)
1C250250

Shenmue Undub
1C251EF8

Shenmue 2 (EU version)
1C33186C

Shenmue 2 (JPN)
1C32D67C

What's Shenmue (JPN)
1C22BB68

Initial value should be "43A00000", if it's not - Right click on address and choose "show as hexademical"
Change value from "43A00000" to "43800000" enjoy your game :king: !

Here's a Cheat Engine file that may save you a bit of time when applying this fix with Demul. You can easily toggle between the default Letterbox (4:3) mode and Widescreen (16:9) mode by clicking on the value column of the related version.
This works with: What's Shenmue [JP], Shenmue [EU, US, JP], US Shenmue [JP], and Shenmue II [EU, JP].

http://i.imgur.com/tk9t7DZ.png

Download the latest version of Cheat Engine from this link
Download Demul Cheat Engine file from this link
Check out the latest released build of Demul from this topic

This is a simple way that may save you time when applying this fix with NullDCCheater since Cheat Engine seems to be causing NullDC to crash for some reason on some machines.
You can easily toggle between the default Letterbox (4:3) mode and Widescreen (16:9) mode on the fly.
This works with: Beta Shenmue, What's Shenmue [JP], Shenmue [EU, US, JP], US Shenmue [JP], and Shenmue II [EU, JP].

http://i.imgur.com/GeP4B4j.png

You need to follow those steps to get things to work correctly:

⋅ Download this version of NullDCCheater from this link and extract it.
⋅ Rename NullDC executable to NullDC.exe, and run it.
⋅ Load a Shenmue disc and wait for the game to start.
⋅ Run NullDCCheater and it should recognise your Shenmue game. if the game wasn't automatically recognised then you have to manually choose the right version from the dropbox menu.
⋅ Select Widescreen or Letterbox mode.
⋅ Click the cheater activation button.

Check out the latest released build of NullDC from this topic

Note: You may need to install/update Visual Basic 6 controls if your system doesn't have them, the installation file (VisualBasic6-KB896559-v1-ENU.exe) is included within the extracted folder if needed.

Shenmue 1 US: (Updated 2015-10-25)
02230250 43800000 (Original Code, best for VGA)
or
02230250 438E38E4 for equivalent to 720x480 (DVD resolution)
or
02230250 43700000 for equivalent to 854x480 (Actual 16x9)

Shenmue 2 EU: (Updated 2015-10-25)
0231186C 43800000 (Original Code, best for VGA)
or

[Demul, NullDC]Shenmue II cutscene bars removing tool [WIP]

Inspired by Ziming 's post about removing bars :)
I present my working attempt to get rid of black bars in cutscenes in Shenmue II

For now, it is a [Work in Progress] test version that currently works only on Disc 1

There is standalone *.exe version and table for cheat engine version.

NullDC(I tested it on 4 different pc's and it worked for me, I do hope it will also work for you and won't crash :) ) :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0wapf65zcevxusc/SII_NoBars_NullDC.EXE?dl=0 - standalone version
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wd6ziguijkw2lr1/SII_NoBars_NullDC.CT?dl=0 - Cheat engine table
Demul:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/t7oo4bvap4srypy/SII_NoBars_Demul.EXE?dl=0 - standalone version
https://www.dropbox.com/s/xmssfgtk89x4uiu/SII_NoBars_Demul.CT?dl=0 - Cheat engine table

With standalone version just run emulator and SII_NoBars(_Demul or NullDC).exe file. and it will automatically find and attach itself to emulator process. IMPORTANT: for NullDC rename emulator's *.exe file to nullDC.exe
Another way requires Cheat Engine installed. open SII_Nobars(Demul or NullDC).CT,
open emulator process, press ctrl+alt+l then press Execute script... use whatever method you like.
Also as a BONUS you can Press 3 to switch between Widescreen/normal modes.

It's a wip version BUT! Since I don't have time to play through the whole game, I need people who would search for further addresses.
For example: one person would work on Disc 2, another on Disc 2 side quests, another on Disc 3, and another on Disc 4.
Let me know if you are interested . I'll make video tutorial how to do it the way I know how I do it :)
UPD: Video tutorial for how to find and add codes added

Re: [Demul, NullDC]Shenmue II cutscene bars removing tool [W

Can anyone please test these codes with codebreaker on real console?
0D432C20 4E524157
00432C04 00000000
0D45C500 4E524157
0045C4E4 00000000
0D448160 4E524157

The codes remove the black bars from Shenhua's prologue, but the black bars still remain for the other scenes.
Thanks for testing, and even video
i'm not expert on this but try to separate them in different sections , like in video
for example:
BLACK BARS will contain
0D432C20
4E524157
00432C04
00000000

BLACK BARS2 will have
0D45C500
4E524157
0045C4E4
00000000

BLACK BARS3 will have
0D448160
4E524157
00448144

I see, let's go different way.. please test these.
delete previous BLACK BARS sections, make new one, and put all this in it.

0E020001
00432C04
00432C04
00000000
0E020001
0045C4E4
0045C4E4
00000000
0E020001
00448144
00448144
00000000

It should work, on Shenhua prologue, boat intro and whole area that in beggining.

Re: Removing the QTE sounds in Shenmue

Can't say for sure but that how I think it works, In beginning of the file there's data related to sample locations, DSP effects notes, pan, volume, etc.. rest of the file is pure sample data. In HEX editor, if you scroll down a little. you should see noticeable separation between them in form of bunch of "00". So if you fill rest of file after these "00" with "80" you should be able to mute all samples.

Re: Demul v0.7 alpha build 221215 - Updated 22/12/15

What we need is increased performance. I can already be very happy with the emulation quality but it's so unoptimized and takes so much juice.
I wish it too, but it's not so simple, from information I gathered from developers:

Dreamcast have an unusual graphic card, it supports technology called OIT(Order-independent transparency) unfortunately non of today's PC or Mobile graphic cards fully supports it. With DirectX 11 it became possible to emulate this feature, but with the way it works, it requires lots and lots of GPU resources! That's why in NullDC without it Ryo have transparent hair and stuff.. +Other graphical things, that unlike NullDC Demul renders properly, like hardware shadows,Multiple-Pass Rendering,Bump mapping, second accumulation buffer and etc. NullDC either doesn't render them properly or simply ignores them.

So I wouldn't call it unoptimized, it's just that NullDC have more "speedhacks" and glitches as a result.

Really? Out of curioisity, what are you guys running?
Running what? :) You mean system specs?

Demul v0.7 alpha 160818

- fix current LBA after Mil-CD security check (Pier Solar playable again)
- ADPCM decoder tweaks, fixes Shenmue I 'muted' sound issues(Fuku-san's piggy bank,"Yokosuka Blues" tape, etc..), and probably other games that had similar problems with sound before.

Re: Removing the QTE sounds in Shenmue

It's been more than year since I tried to do anything with sound, but from what I remember this is how I approached it
http://i.imgur.com/5vME1ze.jpg
This is how snd file looks like. First part I believe consist of data, like where samples located,Volume,Pan,DSP effects, notes(frequencies) etc. and etc.. Second part is pure samples. So my approach was to locate certain sample(s), fill them with "silence" and that's it!

Of course knowing the file structure,it would be much simpler to just edit first part of file,I mean there must be information somewhere about where each sample located or their sizes, or their volume information? but who knows where these bytes are.. Maybe it worth asking FamilyGuy? I think i've seen him at assemblergames.com.

the trial version of the software
Well.. there is always "cured" version if you know what I mean ;-)

In Demul the change is to set 4 bytes at memory location 20810358 to zero. Perhaps someone can help convert this to a format suitable for Codebreaker.
That's address is for sound RAM i.e it is below 2C000000, I think Codebreaker works only with main RAM unfortunately
I believe there should be some values in main RAM, but the question is how to find them?..

Re: Community Projects Random Thoughts

I don't know if this has been discovered before, but I found a way to move some stuff and people around in Shenmue.

I still don't completely understand how everything works but things like these can be achieved by editing RAM:

Changing character and objects position in Shenmue I

This can be achieved by editing certain values in RAM .
To summarize:
Search for string CEWP
Higlight "P" in CEWP and add next addresses:
+7 - position1
+B - postion2(how high object is)
+F - position3
+16 - rotation1
+19 - rotation2

Sometimes you'll see ID's like AKIR or TAXI that can help you to identify who is who or what is what, sometimes you'll just have to guess , some addressees doesn't work at all.
It's a little difficult to explain so I made a video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmA99IicD4c
In Dobuita additionally to "CEWP" there is "D000" for people and transport, works the same way as "CEWP" with difference that these seems to be a spawn points coordinates i.e point at which objects will appear when Ryo approaches them. Also I have found that there's almost no Id's to work with, so you'll just have to guess which is which..
addressees are :
+17 - position1
+1F - position2
+41 - rotation
It work best with characters standing still like Tom or Nozomi..
In addition to all that, if you change all D000 to JD00 you can move all characters from Dobuita to Sakuragaoka, video will explain it all
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k53qqYL4kI4
There's still things to be figured out, but for starting point this will do, i think :-s

As an example I made this Cheat Engine table with some objects for Sakuragaoka https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ogms49bis6oesl/Sakuragaoka.CT?dl=0
This one should work for PAL Shenmue 1 disc 1

It's in the first game and can be beaten in literally three seconds. Being any more specific will give it away, but I'm confident those who have done so - which isn't a super secret or anything - will know it right away.
I'll go with, when sailors ambush Ryo at first day of work and demand him to pay "insurance money"

although, i'm not sure about "can be beaten in literally three seconds", if its some specific move(s)(probably mastered enough) then maybe, but with simple punch and kicks I doubt any fight can be that short :-k
