Re: Tentei?

Yu Suzuki : Lan Di (Rantei-Souryu/藍帝(蒼龍)) is the east leader. His name also means Blue Dragon. About Niao Sun, she also has another name : 炎帝 (Entei), and rules over the South part and is represented by a Phoenix.

Now, regarding the last 2 bosses, no one has seen them yet. One of them is Koutei (昊帝) and leads the West part and is represented by a Tiger. The last one is Gentei (玄帝), covers the North part and is represented by a Turtle.

Oh and, Ziming Hong is not one of the 4th leaders.

http://shenmuedojo.net/new/extras/interview1114.html

Yeah that was from my first interview. I'm sure you'll love the last leaders. ;-)

Re: Best Shenmue Guide? (JP, Both games)

Japanese guides are most of the time the best ones. The white one (made by Famitsu) is great. Problem is, unless you can read Japanese, that won't help you.

You could probably use this one if needed :

Re: Yu Suzuki in China promoting Shenmue 3 (Video Included)

Just a small point I noticed during translation where the China talk differed from the one at GDC 2014:

In the part about the original plan for Shenmue, Suzuki mentions that he had at first been planning to release Shenmue as a set of two games, which would cover all 11 chapters.

I found that this is different from 2014 GDC's translation (from Mark Cerny), which said he had originally planned to release "the first 2 chapters as a single game".

I double-checked with a Japanese news report of the GDC presentation, and it turns out that this was actually a mis-translation; Suzuki did in fact say he had originally planned for two games covering the 11 chapters.

I can confirm this as I had this conversation with Yu Suzuki 2 months ago. Shenmue's story was planned to be 2 games but since it was too huge, he couldn't get it done. Now he never mentioned the 11 chapters fitting into 2 games but clearly said that Shenmue was supposed to be 2 games only.

I'll check the video whenever I have more free time ! Thanks Switch.

Re: Tentei? Spoilers inside

What tentei theory are you talking about ?

Zhu being "lying" to protect ?

Also, there's NO WAY, that Zimming isn't the one on the 4 shadow chi you men leaders.

I saw something about Ziming that proves that he's not one of the leaders. If he's one of them now, then the story has changed. That's all I can tell you.

Re: How long do you think Shenmue III will be ??

Kinda what David said. The game will be as long as you want it. I swear at midnight, I will have had my body clock set, extended leave from work booked, a case of energy drinks in the fridge, coffee jars in the cupboard, all social media and links to the Shenmue Community blocked for when this game is released.
I will play it slowly. I mean slowly! Hopefully the L trigger will still give you access to a first person view, and I will rape the life out of it, looking at every texture, near sight, draw distance, examining every object, reading every word, listening to every sound, exploring every area and option......

It baffles me that anyone who's been waiting on the game for this long, would wanna power through it. Embrace every second of the Shenmue 3 world because we will have earned and paid for every second of it. This could be a 4 hour game, and I will still make it last over 40 hours. Replays, speed runs, notebook completion, all story pathways, all collectibles , learn everything about each NCP... The list goes on and on.

You should be fine for 20 hours just to get all the collectibles

Re: Slacker Backer PayPal - No confirmation email??

Also, never noticed this line of text in the paragraph about the PayPal Campaign - "Delivery of rewards/perks are subject to best efforts and not guaranteed." - so buying stuff via paypal might not be guarenteed? o0

I wouldn't worry.

English version :

Delivery of rewards/perks are subject to best efforts and not guaranteed.

Japanese version :

またリワードは、責任をもって皆様にお届け致します。

From the Japanese version, the message is a bit different : Regarding rewards, we're taking responsibility and will deliver/send them to everyone. (quickly translated, but you get the message)

There's no mention of "not guaranteed" or "are subject to best efforts".

I don't see them earning money without sending the proper rewards. Don't worry. ;-)

Re: Shenmue III spoilers - avoid or embrace?

And have to keep in mind that Shenmue's story has changed. Like Yu Suzuki loves to say, there's the "original story" and what Shenmue is today.

I'll probably watch trailers etc as I don't really mind spoilers anymore. But I have to agree about the Nico Nico's video spoiler. That one was huge and I wasn't expecting him to reveal it so soon.

Until which point the story has changed ? If it's just about quests between keys points of the story, it's not a big deal. But if the change concerns the identity or the will of some characters , that would sound really enigmatic.

Cut chapters, characters etc.
Has he expressed any desire to release the novel he created for the basis of the story? I'd be interested in reading that, after Shenmue is over and done with.

To be honest I never had this conversation with him, we never talked about a novel or a book. His wish is to release the full story through a game if he has the chance to and that's probably why Shenmue III is not ending the story.

Re: Is Shenmue IV a possible reality at this point?

Yu Suzuki's first plan was to go through 5 games BUT he decided to try to make it through 4 games instead. So, yes, Shenmue IV might be the last one.

Regarding Shenmue III sells, I am not worried. Fan base is strong, we're having Sony doing some marketing for it or atleast that's the plan (PS4 version), Shibuya on the PC version, Steam etc.

We all did a great job during the Kickstarter. If we keep going like this until the game is finally released, everything's gonna be alright. ;-)

I hope you enjoyed the conference and the questions I've specially prepared for it.

Seems like people like the new images etc. That's what we wanted to show and if I ever get the chance again to work on a similar project, I'll try my best to provide new content again.

Thanks to the Shenmue Dojo members for the quick live updates and huge thanks to all the lovely fans I had the chance to meet today. You guys are awesome and I am looking forward to meeting you again.

Re: Monaco Magic 2016 - Official Discussion Topic

Lost my iPhone, still had the greatest weekend of my life. Can't really say too much about the Eze trip and the dinner except that Suzuki was an unbelievably gracious host, taking the time to answer all of our questions as best as he could. A big thanks to David for all his hard work translating, a thanks to Chao for letting me be his +1, great meeting up with Rob, great meeting Peter and all the fans from France to Ireland, thanks to Cedric for helping organise MAGIC (I got to ask John Romita Jr. and David Lloyd some questions which made my teenage self very happy) and of course the biggest thanks of all to Yu Suzuki. If the LA and Tokyo dinners are only half as good they will still be the greatest dinners of your life.

As a side-note, I got to recreate a childhood photo:

Re: Monaco Magic 2016 - Official Discussion Topic

Was Eurogamer there? Seems like they should have been invited as well as DualShockers.

Eurogamer with all their click baiting on Shenmue since last year, personally I hope they weren't there.

I was present during most interviews (had to talk with journalists, handle some questions etc) and Eurogamer / Dualshockers weren't there (atleast while I was around).

Re: Where exactly are we in the story?

Yes, story has been modified and it's not really clear right now but I'd get it down like this (for now) :

Shenmue Yokosuka : chapter 1
Shenmue II : chapter 2 (Hong Kong / Kowloon)
Shenmue III : chapter 5 & 6 (Guilin)

At first (the original story), it was probably something like :

Shenmue :

Chapter 1 (Yokosuka + boat part)
Chapter 2 (Hong Kong / Kowloon)

Shenmue II :

Chapter 3 (Train)
Chapter 4 (?)
Chapter 5 (Guilin)

Sorry to go back a bit, to the journal du japon interview, but from trying to understand what Heishunken and Hanken stands for in Chinese, the closest I got to are 七星拳 and 佛汉拳,which are both shaolin styles.

Could Ryo be meeting some fighting monks maybe?

Isn't it 詠春拳 (Eishunken) ? Also known as Wing Chun. ;-)

Re: SEGA currently "investigating" making Shenmue 1/2 HD hap

Sega is well aware of Shenmue III and of course, both Shenmue HD remaster's potential. I had the chance to talk to some Sega Japan's staff during Tokyo Game Show 2015 and most of them really liked Shenmue and Yu Suzuki's work.

Lots of stuff going on in the background scene so let's keep our hopes up. 8)

Re: Playable demo of Shenmue III

High resolution photo from Shibuya's Facebook page. Maybe Switch can translate what's on the whiteboard?

Here's what I can make out. The content is non-spoilerish.

http://i.imgur.com/SkRcFgjl.png

"Dynamic seeds" sounds intriguing. (At least that's what I think the most likely translation is.)

Also the filename displayed here on the monitor suggests that the concept art we saw recently shows Bailu, "Hakka" being what its called in Japanese.
http://i.imgur.com/SLVlEbql.png

Hey Switch do you think the second slightly blurred kanji could be 我そう (monk), it is a 我僧 as a compound but perhaps the person who wrote it didnt know the second kanji.
Could be :

キャラクターバリエーション????の?そう

Characters variations ????

But without a better picture it's hard to read.

Re: E3 2016 & Shenmue 3

There was no real need to show Shenmue III during E3. They'd need a playable version to show something new or a real improvement but as they're still working on it, that was probably not possible.

We're still getting updates here and there, which is a good thing and Sony's E3 was awesome, let's be honest :

- Last Guardian
- GOW
- Bio 7
- Kojima's new project etc

I am not expecting anything at the Tokyo Game Show BUT they can still provide a new update during that time. Nothing official, just my guess.

Dengeki and 4Gamer interviews quick translations

Hello guys,

2 new interviews have been posted on Japanese websites. Full translations will most likely be done by Switch I think, but I've decided to translate some stuff quickly on my free time.

Hope you'll like it !

https://s2.postimg.org/6be2u47rt/003.jpg

From Dengeki :

- Anticipated things (best 3) : 1. Continuation of the story, 2. Open World, 3. Forklifts

- Suzuki san thought at first that it'd be difficult to have something like an open world (because of the budget), but with the recent partnership with Deep Silver and development's improvements, he might be able to provide something that has the atmosphere of an open world. Volume of the 2nd area that we can see in the PV should be around 3 times bigger. That's also why they had to announce the delay, because the game's content has been improved and they need more time

- In the "Shenmue World", players can earn money through different ways like gambling, selling items (to a pawn shop for example) and purchase new moves (scrolls) to get stronger and beat a boss

- He's also talking about Shenmue's logo changes. "My father wrote Shenhua's kanji (莎花). And my mother worked on the "愛すべき友を持て" (Keep friends, those you love, close to you) calligraphy. However, I thought it'd be great if I could do it myself this time

https://s2.postimg.org/z2awk6dll/shenmue3_006_cs1w1_900x360.jpg

https://s2.postimg.org/6qty0vj2x/shenmue3_007_cs1w1_900x206.jpg

- Players who haven't played the first two games will have no problem playing the 3rd one. For Shenmue II, we added a 15 minutes movie of the first Shenmue so players could catch up, but this time we'll work on something more simple based on images and texts

https://s2.postimg.org/qmpxgf049/009.jpg

4Gamer :

Can you tell us why you decided to work with Deep Silver ?

- Suzuki san : We worked on the Kickstarter Campaign right after announcing the game and it was a success. However, it's difficult to do an open world with the budget we had, that's why we kept looking for a partner. They already worked with Sega in the past and they were a recommandation from people I trust

- About improvements, Suzuki san is providing an example. For the 2nd city we are going to visit in the game, they planned around 50 to 60 NPC, but now, this number could reach 200

- Shenmue III will start 6 hours after the end of Shenmue II

Other things are mostly stuff we already know like the phone calls etc.
