Re: Ryuji Iuchi tweets about Shenmue 3 music

Ryuji Iuchi, composer on the previous Shenmue titles and Shenmue 3, tweeted that there are many unused tracks from Shenmue and Shenmue 2. He goes on to say that he will only compose new music when there are no matching, unused tracks left.

Yeeeeeessssss!!! This is so awesome! This is fantastic news!

This will help ensure that S3 feels very Shenmue. A large part of the athmosphere has always been the music. For me, at least.

Also this will save Ys Net a lot of money as they don't have to compose a lot of new stuff. Maybe they could even just use the old recordings from the Sega archives, if they're high enough quality.

Damn it, the tracks in this video alone would make it one of the best video game scores ever and that's probably just a fraction of what Sega already have. I hope we'll see a lot of that in S3. Also, don't forget the "Lions something" track (forgot the exact name) from the Orchestra Soundtrack CD.

That tweet made my day! \:D/ :king: \:D/

Re: Nationalities of the dojo members

^Kind of surprised so many of us still have a good taste when it comes to video games. :) It's a good thing.

Also, the German indie scene is kind of keeping the Dreamcast alive with games like Sturmwind and so on. Senile Team from the Netherlands are also good so it's not just the Shenmue community who still love the Dreamcast.

Lol is Yu wearing his only shirt again?

Maybe Yu sold all his other shirts to raise money for Shenmue 3?

Or maybe he chooses to wear a black and white "jail" shirt to symbolize not being free to make Shenmue 3 until now!

Or maybe he's trying to blend in with his French co-producer:

Re: Why bother with monogamous relationships at all?

Different people will indeed view this in a different way. And many times those with kids (sometimes) wish they didn't. And vice versa. It's simple, as with all things you get good and bad sides.
I've seen the prostitute argument being mentioned by business men actually. Some said that they didn't have enough spare time for a family so they preferred that kind of clear "business deal". On the other hand, I've seen interviews with male pornstars who do nothing else than long for a normal relationship and got depressed.

I personally am not married, have been a long time with someone and don't have kids. Considering my life it wouldn't really be optimal either to have some. For their sake :P
Sure there is the argument that they're there when you're old. But I've seen statistics (not global) that show that a very large part of the kids aren't really there anyway later on. So you can't count on that 100%.

As for the genes, I don't know. I've also thought about that a while but does it actually matter in a way? I mean, look at for example a guy like Einstein. He lives on because of his work while the general public doesn't know his offspring at all. This goes for lots of others like musicians etc. And eventually the human race dies out anyway. Either by itself after a few million years (average for species), by the death of the Sun which will scorch the Earth, or the inescapable death of the universe aeons away in the future.

Basically, the choice is about what makes you happy this very moment I guess. Or what gives you a purpose right now.

Re: Why bother with monogamous relationships at all?

First off, I wouldn't agree that it doesn't make sense to have kids these days. If it doesn't make sense for you , that's your decision and I'm sure everybody's cool with that. I agree that if one chooses that kind of life style, visiting prostitutes is probably cheaper in the long run, than having to pay for drinks, dinners and dates and going from one girlfriend or one night stand to the next. I don't see anything wrong with prostitution in general, as well, as long as two grown-up people participate in it of their own free will.

But I personally plan on getting married and having children. For the sake of procreating. Don't give me the overpopulation issue or anything. I don't care what other people are doing. I want my own genes to be passed on and not some-one else's. And in order to procreate, monogamous relationships are still the best way to do it, imho. Of course they have disadvantages but I am willing to get those disadvantages in order to procreate. Having a car has disadvantages, as does having a job, having a building loan contract or shaving wet. You need to decide if it is worth it for you.

So why is a monogamous relationship still the best way to procreate? Same game as it has been since a million years ago. As a man, I want to make sure, the children I am raising are in fact mine. Making sure the mother sleeps with no other men but me is the safest way to do that. Of course there could be cheating in any relationship but let's just assume the relationship is indeed monogamous.

The woman on the other hand wants to make sure that I as a man invest all my time and ressources, financial and mental, into her children, not another woman's. Me having children with other women would take away part of my ressources from her children.

Nothing wrong with your life style though. I'm just saying why I personally feel that monogamous relationships are still useful.

Re: 3 Wishes

Sometimes I think it would be nice to have super intelligence like in Limitless, but then i tell myself that every show, every video game, basically every form of entertainment would become incredibly dull. For barely tolerable brain dead Hollywood movies especially it would make them outright unwatchable. :( And that would likely extend to conversations with other people and all sorts of things. I guess that's why suicide seems to rise with intellect.

I did think of that, but erred towards the OL way of thinking. Though being the best at everything could get boring, I'm sure it'd open up a whole new level of challenges, like being blatantly caught committing a crime then successfully arguing your way out of it. Or I dunno, studying some scientific equations that nobody can decipher/make sense of. I do still think I agree with you also though, so I'm gonna switch Limitless, for Chuck. In Chuck, it revolves around something called an "Intersect", which is basically a short high speed video you watch which programmes your brain to expert level with stuff you simply knew nothing about before. Probably stole the idea from The Matrix where Tank uploads helicopter piloting skills to Trinity. If I wished for knowledge on how to create my own Intersects with different types of data within, I reckon that'd be sweet. You could do as Chuck did and be programmed to be super leet at fighting, but if you could programme your own you could go so much further than that, like insert whole foreign dictionaries and thesauruses as well as novels and magazines into your head so you'd just know their language fluently straight away. One would still have no more than their own limited intelligence as before, but you'd still be able to be pretty amazing. That could work for me.
Would be hard to explain to a genie how to grant me that, though. Unless he was willing to sit there and watch the first season of Chuck. Which I'd then explain to him could have been all seasons, in a few seconds, if I'd Intersected it into him instead...

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I'm just hoping he doesn't cop out and shows Big Boss for the evil bastard that he is. Liquid and Solidus did take after daddy, after all.

Total subject shift here, but I've never really taken him to be "evil" myself. One of the best things about games like MGS3, Peace Walker, and now Phantom Pain, is that they show a steady and genuine progression from him as an order-taking lapdog into who he would eventually become. And personally, I feel like it makes it clear that everything about him is grey, grey, grey. He has reasons for everything he does. And because of how he's been treated by the world, and because of all the shitty things that he's been witness to, he develops his own philosophies that sit somewhere outside of conventional thought.
Liquid and Solidus on the other hand... yeah, they're bad, bad guys. I think you're pretty on-the-money about them taking after daddy, but it's less about them inheriting anything from him, so much as them misinterpreting how he lived. They do bad things for bad reasons, while Big Boss, even back in the original MG games, did bad things for what he believed to be a greater good.
It's a whole philosophical discussion I guess. He's a ruthless badass, for sure (and I do agree, I hope his potential for morally-ambiguous situations isn't neutered in the new game), but I certainly wouldn't call him an evil bastard.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

That may be because you haven't played Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (or you have?), but his speech at the end of the game in that game is nothing short of bonkers. What started out as a band of mercenaries gets changed into a terrorist organisation that holds the world to ransom due to Big Boss losing his own damn mind. MGS3 was obviously, originally, supposed to show how Big Boss got messed up emotionally and mentally by the events of that game. And it was enough of a reason for me to see why Big Boss got pissed off and did the things that he did. In MGS1, it is established by Liquid that at some point his life, he did meet his father and was treated like dirt by him, which led to Liquid's hate of him. There's also the fact that in Zanzibar Land, which is where Big Boss really lost his marbles, he used child soldiers and at that stage enjoyed killing for sport. That's something that Solidus took after (what with Solidus using Raiden as a child soldier and all). And I think most Metal Gear "villain/antagonist" characters are in the grey area, aside from some characters like Volgin. Even somebody like Psycho Mantis, who I would also classify as "evil" had a really tragic back story and small sense of redemption only on his death bed, realising he wasted his life by being as evil as he was.

I think Big Boss manipulating his own son (Solid Snake) and then trying to kill him twice is pretty high up on the "worst dad ever" list, but that's just me. :P
He did some noble things along the way like rescue Naomi and Gray Fox, rescue Sniper Wolf, be a good friend to Ocelot etc. But I've always seen things from Solid Snake's perspective and it's really complicated.

I'd actually say that Solidus is the one son the most like Big Boss, since they both have the right intentions, marred by the way in which they do things. They're both sympathetic characters, but did some really shitty things. That's what makes them interesting to me. That's why I enjoy the Metal Gear story, because it's so convoluted and nobody is straight up evil.

Re: Yakuza series

^^One of Nagoshi's intentions from the start with the Yakuza series was to create something that could lend itself to other genres as well. There are the main series games as the focus, but they could also do the occasional off-the-wall side project with it as well (which is why they did Kenzan and Ishin; dropping their established characters into the roles in a samurai story). I thought it was stupid at first too, but once I understood that it wasn't meant as part of the main series, I was totally open to it. And the game actually turned out to be pretty damn solid. Zombies might be done to death nowadays, but inserting them into a Yakuza-style story and gameplay framework felt surprisingly fresh.
I'd wholeheartedly recommend it if you like the series at all. It's pretty out-there, but the story is actually really good.

Re: Sony TGS 2015 News/Announcements - It was bloody awesome

Vita came out before PS4, Zoltor. So how does that make it a "wannabe PS4?" Vita is also nowhere near the price of a PS4 and has its own solid library of games. Far better than 3DS's, which is a disappointment compared to DS.

How is the PS4 not selling in Japan though? These are the Japanese hardware sales (according to Media Create) for the week August 3 - August 8 2015. The second column is the previous week, the third shows total 2015 sales.

New 3DS LL.......29.203....44.994....720.945
PS4...................14.619....18.740....690.367
Wii U.................13.007....11.938....336.227
PS Vita...............12.841....13.214....551.556
New 3DS..............7.250......7.671....249.629
PlayStation 3........2.567......2.540....168.019
3DS.....................1.657......1.585.....82.160
3DS LL....................898........874.....80.965
PS Vita TV...............496.........527....20.409
Xbox One................200.........186....10.843

PS4 is outselling everything that's not a 3DS, which is no direct competition. So in comparison I'd say it's doing pretty well. Are sales that much worse than those of the previous console generation? Or what do you mean by not selling? Just curious :)

I meant in comparison to last generation. The Japanese game market has practically cratered over there, which is why Japanese publishers are back to localizing games for Worldwide release again. A lot of Japanese publishers like Konami, Capcom, Namco etc have started making more and more mobile phone games instead of fund console games, since they provide to Japanese gamers over that market rather than on console. And I don't think those are good sales at all. Around 14,000 console sales is not good, man, no matter how you look at it. It's a joke for a new console like PS4. Even people at Sony have been saying that PS4 sales need to be far better in Japan.

Yea, I knew the PS4 wasn't selling as badly as he claimed, and infact those are pretty damn awesome sales actually, especially if It's even above the Vita. Hell, it selling better then a handheld even in the short term(and it almost matches the year's total sales numbers at that), practically makes it a runaway success. .

Runaway success my ass. The PS4 is doing well in the global market, but not back in Japan land. Media Create reported around two months ago that it was the worst selling month for games in Japan of all time. I wouldn't call that a stable or safe market to market your games towards. Japanese publishers are now eying the global market, since it's 2015 and in Japan games aren't selling like hot cakes in their home market anymore.

Re: Yakuza series

Yakuza Kiwami’s New Scenarios Fill In Various Gaps, More Spotlight Time For Majima

Yakuza Kiwami is considered a “revenge” title to themselves of 10 years ago, as in, they’re trying to prove to themselves that they’re able to do that much better.

The remake will have a vast amount of new scenes.

The way Akira Nishiki “changed” is one that’s especially going to get some attention.

The music was particularly frustrating for Sega to work on. This time they were able to get B’z vocalist Koshi Inaba to help out.

The content they’re going to show for Yakuza Kiwami is said to be more astonishing than what they’ve ever shown at past Tokyo Game Shows.

They say that you’ll burst into tears if you play Yakuza Kiwami right after Yakuza Zero.

Yakuza Kiwami was made all possible because of Yakuza Zero.

The new episode focuses on Nishiki’s big change and the reason behind it while Kiryu was in prison for 10 years.

Nishiki’s voice actor Kazuhiro Nakaya also noted that after reading the script, it was so rough on him that he felt like not reading any scripts for a while.

The concept behind Yakuza Kiwami is to keep the Yakuza taste alive, while making a new title with high quality.

Yakuza Kiwami is being developed with the developers’ knowhow being pushed to their limits.

Events will be easy to understand.

Everything you acquire as far as Battle Style in Yakuza Zero goes, will be available from the very start. However, due to having served prison time for so long, you’ll need to work on getting stronger again. That’s the growth theme behind Yakuza Kiwami.

Goro Majima didn’t have much of an appearance in the original game, but he will in Yakuza Kiwami. You can help power up Kiryu with a new “Everywhere Majima System,” which will basically have Majima show up just about anywhere for a fight.

If you’re wondering about how that works, we’re not exactly sure yet with the information out there, but he can ambush you while disguised as a cabaret club girl.

A new mini-game called “Insect Queen Female King” will also be added.

Re: Yakuza series

Oh, and nice to see the slap kept in the trailer.
It's like they did it just to piss off LanDC all over again.

I was slightly irritated by that, but then thought "meh, Japan". What's up with it, why is he slapping her, why is it in the trailer and can you elaborate on that LanDC pissed-offness? : D

I can't remember the line exactly, but Kazuma just slaps her once for saying things she shouldn't; I might be wrong, but I think she's saying something about how a certain someone is probably dead, or something of that nature. Need to see the scene again. But yeah, it's just one of those "Come to your senses" kinds of slaps. Nothing malicious.

Anyway, waaaaay back when the original game was first announced, there was understandably a good amount of rumbling (and grumbling) going on around here about the game, due to the snap observation that it's similar in a lot of ways to Shenmue. So basically that ended up creating two different sides on the matter: people who were excited for it, and people who were pissed that Sega was working on this instead of a new Shenmue.
Obviously, that led to the angriest of Shenmue fanboys making a lot of petty, silly complaints about what was shown in the first trailer. And for some reason the one that always stood out in my mind most was LanDC complaining that Kazuma is a terrible, terrible person for slapping a little girl, and observing that Ryo would never do that because he has honor or some such other silliness.
I dunno, that just always made me laugh, judging a game over something so small and writing the entire thing off because of it. Sorry, just making in-jokes to myself I guess.

Re: The Last of Us 2 accidentally confirmed

Yeah, have to agree, I didn't take the original game's ending as a cliffhanger at all. I thought it was a perfect wrap-up to everything, actually. Maybe the game's world hadn't been given any closure, but it took its characters across a pretty wide, satisfying arc, and I think it ended at just the right place to leave maximum impact.
On that note, yeah, I kind of hope it's about new characters; I think Joel and Ellie's story was wrapped up beautifully enough that a sequel with them would just step on some toes. But hey, Naughty Dog is good at what they do, so maybe they'd have a way to do it without screwing things up. Time will tell I guess.

Re: The Last of Us 2 accidentally confirmed

Yep, completely agree. It sounded like, and had the feel of a completely stand alone game. Beginning, middle and end. I felt very satisfied with the conclusion. I am wondering if people want a sequel based on this, which would defeat the purpose because they would really be looking for another standalone story with the same fantasy and emotion generated from it. If you want a sequel because of the characters story, well it was pretty much concluded in the first game.

If there is more story to be told then I am all for it. But that need to justify the making of the game. If it's just a case of cashing in on a new franchise, well that's just another day at the office for the gaming industry, and one I wouldn't pay money for.

Re: The Last of Us 2 accidentally confirmed

^^Still don't understand the hate. Ellie was easily among the least annoying child characters I've ever seen in a game, and I'm really not sure why Joel's moral fiber would make the game less compelling (nor do I see how he qualifies as a "woe is me" kind of character; he never brings his problems up with anyone or wallows in it, he just acts like a hardass. Hardly Hot Topic kid behavior).
If anything it made it more compelling to me, because he wasn't the same old do-gooder hero you come to expect with these things; his decision at the end resonated with me because it wasn't the predictable "save the many by sacrificing one" bullshit that so many other stories spout. If anything, I completely agreed with his choice. I easily hold my personal relationships higher than any concern I might have for people I don't know. If it came down to it, yeah, I'd save someone I genuinely cared about long before I'd give them up for the "good of the world." A case like that, I'd say fuck the world, and I'm glad he felt the same way.

Re: Pre-order Shenmue 3 with PayPal

I don't see it as that big of an issue, tbh. I didn't max out my credit card, but I gave what I was willing to give and what I could afford. Now that might be $100 for one person and $10,000 for another. As long as you are able to repay the spendings on your credit card, I guess it's fine.

I had made plans to buy a new phone in September which is not gonna happen now because of Shenmue 3 and I'll have to put off my new phone plans for the time being. But that's fine with me. It was worth it to me. So if others want to max out their credit cards or bank accounts I don't think it's "stupid" to do so. It's their own money and it's not an emotional decision imho. Those people had an entire month to think their Kickstarter contribution over and could have bailed out at any time.

Also, I do agree with you on the fact that it's "sad", Yu has to ask the fans for money to fund S3, but "wrong"? No, I don't think so. Shenmue 3 has been put on halt for 14 years, Sega don't want to finance it which is understandable. Now Yu has been trying fo find an outside investor for many years, which was not successful, so I guess Kickstarter and Paypal was the only way it could have been done.

So this is exactly what i'm talking about...i don't know how much you donated personally but i'm not sure how you can say maxing out credit cards or donating $1000's isn't an emotional decision when it isn't exactly an investment that you can expect any return on...you are literally giving away money because you/we are desperate to see the continuation of our favorite game series...and for that YU doesn't deserve our =D>

I'm not against the entire idea of kickstarter or having pseudo pre-order's to guarantee demand for a title before they spend millions and years developing something, but Yu knows that the shenmue fan base is relativity small and having stretch goals that reach $11+ million is a total P*** take, higher than any other kick starter and stating the game will not stretch his complete vision unless we pony up such funds...

Re: Thanking Sony

Looks like helping Shenmue has caused more troubles to their image than benefits, unfortunately for them. Too bad for everyone that Andrew House didn't know how to communicate.

No it didn't. More than 1/4th of the E3 "sony fucking won" was because SIII. It was a fucking amazing conference.

And to be honest, yeah, I want to thank Sony (even I kinda hated for a while). If there were not any BIG producers saying "we'll lend a hand" Shenmue III will not be comming.

If they didn't go all in, that's most of what everyone was done for a game like Shenmue (fucking NOW LIVING videogame HISTORY).

Also a big thanks to Shibuya productions, they were crazy good with interacting with fans.

EDIT: Seems like most times I post in this forum I'm drunk. But that doesn't mean I'm always drunk.

Above all, it's confirmed that Shibuya is the main investor of Shenmue 3. So yes we can be grateful to all these companies.

Re: Thanking Sony

Yup, fucking Shenmue III.

I'm grateful for those guys.

Love the Monaco/Yu Suzuki relationship, Jorge Luis Borges would be quite proud.

FOR MAKING SHENMUE III REALITY.

Says it all really. No one else was willing to help like Sony. They heard our voices. Without Sony, we wouldn't be talking about Shenmue III right now.

Re: Thanking Sony

I've been thanking Sony since child birth.

If I get a Tattoo it will read:

SHENMUE
O
N
YUSUZUKI

With an etched drawing of Kaz Hirai on my belly.
