Re: What ~*May*~ Be Coming in December's Kickstarter Update

@SuzukiYu
They got an AM2 character modeler on their team, the guy who made the original Shenhua model, so let's hope for the best.

And prepare for the worst
yes i know but he is just one of the modelers.

he's involved with the passport disk though

i am hoping for the best of course.

Re: To All The Donators of "Shenmue 3" worldwide: Roll Call!

it's easy on paper..
but those who already participated are not necessarily ready to pay more unfortunately.
some of them is OK with the budget as it is. some of them love the game but not to the point that some of us would go for support. some of them don't even care about the franchise but they want to support the fans. or newcomers whom are interested in the franchise and payed the basic price to get the game.. etc

initially i donated about 2,600$ in kickstarter campaign and i wish if i could do more during that period.
when the Paypal campaign begins i had fantasized in my mind that with Paypal donors + 5000 to 10000 people whom are willing to continue the support after Kickstarter we could do miracles! (i mean 5000 X 50$ = 250,000$ per month just from existing backers!) so i continued my support in the first two months (100$ each) but unfortunately i overestimated the numbers and it was below below my expectations even though i tried to be realistic as possible as i could (there when i completely gave up on this)

Re: Securing Shenmue's future

Am I the only one here that doesn't want Shenmue 4 to be the last one (if it actually is). I actually want 5 or 6 installments.
But of course ideally, I would hope it never ends!
me too. but i don't want it to be an endless series since one of the great things about this series is how the whole story is structured in such a way. a successor is what i would like to have.
i want 6 games or 5 at the very least. (if it was't for Suzuki's age i would ask for more!)
Shenmue is supposed to be a gigantic saga, there are many places within the mainland of China planned to be part of Ryo's Adventure. with 6 games it's already a huge compromise to be taken! i really don't understand the people who want to conclude the story as fast as possible! it will be bad and ruin the entire thing!
even if SIII became a failure i would rather take a proper Shenmue without real ending than a rushed and unfocused Shenmue experience just to finish the story!

Re: What kind of minigames do you think will be in this game

I sure hope they don't put mini-games that doesn't mesh well with the game's setting just to please the fans. If forklifts are too urban for Chobou, then I'd rather not see them. Nor an arcade.

I'm guessing there will be board games, gambling... Maybe some mini-game that has something to do with farming in Bailu. I can't remember exactly, but Shenhua said something about a job in Shenmue 2 that involves the fields, I forgot what she said, but I remember thinking "I bet I'm going to work there when I arrive at Bailu".
yup i don't think something like an arcade center would fit in SIII settings. you know what? after thinking about it even something like Arm Wrestling might not fit with the culture & traditions there.
Shenmue 2 has a complete different feel to it compared to Shenmue 1 and i believe Shenmue 3 would be an even more of a different experience compared to the rest of the games.

Re: S3 gameplay - Movement style and controls

Briefly my idea of Shenmue 3 movement would be as follows:

Full 360 3d movement and 360 camera movement by default, aka Yakuza, LA noire etc BUT;

Exact controls:
L stick - 360 3d movement walk/jog

no no... NO!
the camera should stick behind Ryo all the fucking time except for zoom into objects just like it was before.
and they should stick with Tank control not 360 degree movement crap.

seriously if Suzuki san changes a lot of the control scheme i will start to question if he really knows what he is doing anymore.. yup design wise it's THAT of a crucial part that was serving an important rule to immerse the player.
and this is not nostalgically speaking this will truly hurt part of strong immersion known in the series.

i stated before in one of the topics related to the subject that all they need to do really is simply assign the right analog for camera(head) movement and the actual movement should be optional between D-pad/left analog.
some minor additions would be sweet as well like touch pad for the note pad as you stated.
that's all about it.

I think this would be a recipe for getting savaged in reviews. Keep tank controls as an option but have an updated control scheme as default. There's a reason why they're called "tank" controls and not "natural human motion" controls. This is supposed to be a game for millions of people, not just the players from the Dreamcast era. It should be possible to cater to both.
i don't care about the reviewers and what they might think is necessary for modern controls.
i don't agree with anyone saying the "Tank" control is outdated! it's a design choice that could fit/not fit with the game associated with.
there is a reason why the previous games controlled that way (body movement & camera movement) and if it's not for the lack of the left analog on the Dreamcast controller it would be absolutely a perfect controls for the series.
everything about the movement and camera makes you feel like you are Ryo you are in his shoes and you are observing your surroundings. being able to move the camera around Ryo and in front of his face rather than controlling his head will make you lose a lot of this sensation.
and i am completely against your point regarding the "natural human motion" too
for example take a look at this video at (09:23) basically most of the games (if not all of them) using this so called modern controls the character would act like this when you rotate him.
https://youtu.be/xkN9oru-qCQ?t=563
how can anyone consider this as a natural human motion and Ryo's motion is not! Ryo's motions are more natural than most of the games i played in my entire life! you feel his weight and feel his body parts moving around accurately.

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

why bringing up Shenmue Online designs here?
i believe it was stated by Suzuki himself in a different occasions that Shenmue Online fantasy themes doesn't have to do anything with the main plot of the original Shenmue.
yes the the story is starting to have light fantasy elements and it was always intended to do and probably it will go deeper in that direction in the future but not to that extent seen in Shenmue Online materials.

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

People who aren't satisfied with the model, can you elaborate in detail why? Most of the posts I've read were "It doesn't feel like Shenmue" or "It's too cartoony"... I'm trying to understand why people would think so, and the only thing I can see is the skin shader being a little plasticky... That's pretty much it. And that is something that can easily be improved.

The face, proportions, and clothing are fine. The overall design is 100% the Shenmue I know and love. They translated the design from concept art to 3D model incredibly well. He is supposed to be this weird, overly muscular character with a creepy smile, I can't imagine him looking better than he already does in 3D. This bodes well for the rest of the characters, I say.
i can't agree more.

i think they did a phenomenal job with this Model to the point i am so confident right now more than ever that the rest of the models will get the exact great & detailed treatment that this model has. and therefore i can't wait to see the familiar characters and how they would look like using the new technology.

some people here are bringing up the old shitty placeholder models and argue about it as if the new model is in the same category? no it's not it's faaaaaaaaaaar superior! it's not even has to be refined a lot in the final product.

as a matter of fact i was really concerned with what we saw before and even though i knew those were placeholders i was questioning myself if the team had what it takes to make great modeling job until i saw this video! in fact this video is one of the best videos they released so far for this reason.

https://static.gamespot.com/uploads/screen_kubrick/mig/5/4/5/7/2105457-169_wwe_all_stars_video_review_multi_040111_1.jpg

Proportions are far from fine in my opinion. I feel like in the past the 3D modelers tried to ground the concept art (the Joy example was good), but now they make it look even more outlandish hence it doesn't mesh well with the environment.

http://i.imgur.com/m0q9953.jpg

i don't see the problem really regarding the proportions.
this guy supposed to be incredibly muscular based on the original artwork. (it's not like real men can't be like this) and they did a phenomenal job translating that into 3D. does anyone supposed to be like that? of course not. but the message i am getting from this video is that whomever is responsible for this model know his work very well and can do a great job at the other characters. even the body animation was superb.

as for the character in that picture being out of place?
first of all you can't just take a random background picture of the game which is unfinished yet and mash it up with this new model! you made this picture out of place.
secondly i am far more pleased with the work done in this model than the environment in that picture, the latter need more work not the other way around.

Here is the older version of this guy with higher forehead. This is just a paint job in 30sec....

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/170531/ktbjic6g.jpg
dude, he is still waaaay too serious and bold.
this goes completely against the original concept of the character that they are trying to craft.

i know what you are trying to get here but come on people it's not like this style doesn't exist in the originals
i mean look at this guy's face
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/douniu.jpg
explain to me how the approach with this design is considered far away from the new character design?

and look how big he is compared to poor Ryo

the fucking thing is HUGE!

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

So, Tekken 7 is using UE4. How do you guys think the models in Tekken 7 compare to this guy?
Different styles. Just because they're using the same engine doesn't mean they'll look similar or should be compared. You know what else is using UE4? Street Fighter V, Dragon Quest XI, Summer Lesson, Neptunia: Four Goddesses Online, Days Gone.

All of these look completely different despite being on the same engine.

http://i.imgur.com/jMRBnXn.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/DBZcrcE.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/X6H2tOy.jpg I understand that, but I think it's a good basis to compare whether or not the art style we see is at the level of other games using UE4. I think people should be realistic about the game not looking like 15-year-old Dreamcast game and set their expectations to a certain level. The Shenmue bad guy model doesn't look too far off from what I'm seeing in the Tekken 7 and SF shots.

I believe that's the problem. Most people expected to at least look as good as the DC games...

That summer lesson game looks good.

doesn't look as good as the DC games?!

those models look better? in what world?

regarding Summer Lesson

this is how it looks in motion
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBHauh-Vy24

aside from the good facial expressions (which is not applied yet in the SIII Model) very very basic stuff in comparison even though it's a very small game.

Re: Shenmue 3 & E3 2017 - UPDATE - Confirmed will NOT be at

Releasing the HD remaster before 3 generates interest in the new upcoming game rather than retroactively generate interest when sales matter less when the new product been on the shelf awhile long enough for used copies or steam sales where they see very little of that money. Release it now and get those who never played before curious and retain some of those people to get excited for III and buy it new launch week.

Right, my assumption is of course that Sega has no financial benefit (or very small) in boosting Shenmue 3 sales, so they care less. Yet if Shenmue 3 is a success they can reap the benefit of releasing the HD after. I do not see any better explanation into why would they wait so long to announce it.

In the long run our view makes sense in a bet to continue series beyond Shenmue 3, but for Sega it might be too much of a gamble at the moment.

it's way safer for them to jump now and take advantage with the remasters while the hype is still high for this series and it's legacy because no one really knows how's the reception for 3 is gonna look like + many won't even bother to play 3 before the remasters.

it's a no-brainer for them to release the remasters way ahead of SIII release.

Re: New Ryo & Shenhua models from press release

well well i was here since yesterday reading all the debates going on with specifically the models and i will cite my opinion on the matter..

first of all both of the new models are on track and vastly improved upon and far away from being bad or unfaithful to the concept designs available from the past. they only and only need some small tweaking (which is to be expected since there is about 1.5 years left at least before release)
and maybe i will be first to say it here but i am more pleased with Shenhua's new Model than Ryo... yes you heard that right!

Shenhua has never had a consistent model artwork.
the one they choose to go for here is clearly something more akin to these 3D renders

http://www.shenmuedojo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/fSKLL2J9Gsjgbvduhn01SxMPoDV.jpg
http://www.shenmuedojo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/orchcdart04.jpg

http://www.shenmuedojo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/orchcdart10.jpg

i always adored those back in the day and i feel they are going to a similar direction here.
now don't get me wrong i absolutely love the original design used in SI and Shenmue Passport, the thing is and i might be one of the few to say this but i don't like how she looked like in SII at all.

so going from this
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ALKUcr6oaEo/maxresdefault.jpg

to this
http://i.imgur.com/xZqNA4X.jpg

is a step up in art direction IMO.

again those new models are not perfect but still very close from some of designs used in past materials.

i will not talk about the location seen in the picture (which is looking gorgeous BTW!) but damn i wasn't expecting the great wall at all! the events in this game are supposed to take place far from it!

as for the logos i don't know but i find them both great unlike the shitty one used from before, it's not a big matter anyway.

Re: Update #78: Then, Now and Tomorrow

That was also my opinion... until I learnt that the new logo was designed by Yu Suzuki himself (and his father for the Japanese one). It just sounds that Yu wants to take a new departure with his very own franchise.

actually this was done by his father

Re: IGN Interviewed Cedric Biscay about Shenmue

“When I played the latest version of the game I had a feeling of reassurance, like I had come back home. It was a joyful feeling, just like reuniting with an old friend or relative. I think if you’re a fan of the Shenmue series, you’ll feel a flood of satisfaction. Without a doubt, you’ll feel that ‘It’s here at last – the bona-fide sequel to Shenmue II!’ People who cried at the E3 announcement will surely shed tears again”.

i can't wait to see the game in-motion. :(

thank you for the translation.

Re: What we hope to happen in Shenmue III

i would like to see much more villains and interesting characters than ever before.

now what i want in it's world:
i want it to have a proper food system i guess.
all the restaurants in previous games were partially meaningless.
it's not a big deal but it will add more to the authenticity of the overall experience.

i want the exploration to be more rewarding than ever.
i think Yu Suzuki is aiming to do that here based on some of his comments.

Re: Just woke up from a SIII dream!

Last night i dreamed again of Shenmue III. I saw in my dream the game in motion and i was playing it. It was exactly like in the past two games. I was really fascinated about graphics and gameplay. It was a very nice dream. ;-)
funny thing i dreamt about it last night too!

but my dream was about Suzuki san presenting the game and it looks as great as it should.
and i was blown away about how much the game is true to what Shenmue was all about.

hopefully this is good sign for this month's event

Re: Random Shenmue III Thoughts

However, according to the latest issue of Forbes (Czech Republic Edition) which includes a detailed profile of Game Director Daniel Vávra (who directed Mafia and its sequel while at 2K Czech), Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s total budget was 750 million crowns – or roughly 36.5 million dollars.
https://wccftech.com/kingdom-come-deliverance-cost-36-m-dollars/

wow! 36 million :O
this is quite surprising if true! and what would that possibly mean for Shenmue 3?
