Re: When do you think we will see in this month's update

:) I hope so too! But I think there's a chance they'll just post another interview for now (and if they can't talk about Shenmue 3, I hope they'll talk about game development at least, which I find very interesting).

Re: My games (hopefully future releases)

:) I tried your game. I like the settings, the way you used the colors and the vibe (btw how did you manage to use post-processing effects? I can't with unity4 free :\ . Are you using unity pro or are now free for use?). It's a bit glitchy, though: the mirror in the bathroom's scene looked completely purple (no textures?) and after I asked the guy about the smoke in the kitchen, I got teleported inside the kitchen itself :D
For the controls, I'd suggest:
-inverting the Y rotation (left-right) of the camera when using the mouse, otherwise it feels like the player is drunk :D ;
-during a cutscene, making the subtitle appear completely by pressing the right button and then, if it's pressed again, making it finally skip to the next subtitle.
If possible, I'd like the actions to be less linear: feel suggested and controlled by the player (think of half-life 2) rather than forced by an invisible screenplay, so the player feels he's actually part of that world.
I'm looking forward for your next works :)

Re: My games (hopefully future releases)

About the kitchen, what happened is that I talked to the guy and he said it wasn't fire it was just smoke. Now that I think about it, it's not that he actually teletrasported into the kitchen, I think I saw him walking through the kitchen's walls while the other guy was talking to him during the cutscene, that's how I think I got here. Maybe the cutscene didn't correctly stop the player's movements? But even so, he should've collided with the wall, odd.
I could get through some of the objects inside the kitchen, except a trash bag and a few other objects. I could see part of a flame sprite and smoke just outside (or maybe inside) the door. I pushed the player against a corner and the "fire extinguisher" command popped up (I guess it was actually outside the room?), so I was able to use it to start the next cutscene :)

:) I especially liked how the "point-and-click adventure" camera worked in 3d. btw if you want to try more camera styles, you could make one that moves a little around the actor during cutscenes a la Shenmue (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8RpDgxAyKI&feature=youtu.be&t=1273). I used it in my prototypes to make the shots feel more dynamic (and hide the fact that my characters used basic hand-made poses for some animations :D )

Re: Making our own HD remaster with Reshade.

I never really used Reshade extensively so I might be wrong on this, but I see a fundamental problem with it, beside the fact that nobody shares their own Reshade presets used for the scrrenshots on this topic. The big problem is that the final result is mostly only good for screenshots, playing is another thing altogether.

I have achieved what I consider decent results, without pushing too much and straining my hardware to the point where Demul starts to stretch audio because of a 5 fps drop... but then I realized that I have to disable Reshade if I want to read Ryo's notes or if I want to avoid being blinded by Megumi's red dress. I guess that's the problem with something like Reshade, it's painstaking, if not outright impossible, to balance an entire tree of settings that will be applied in the same way across the board. How can I make Ryo's notebook shine less that the actual Sun? I guess I really can't, can I?! :???:

A few examples: http://imgur.com/a/v7Zk9
It's not really reshade, the problem is the game was not programmed for post-processing and we're just applying an overhaul graphic patch on it. Some time ago I did my own preset and I had to face your same problem, so I tried to find a good balance, so that it does look better while retaining the same Shenmue-look and fixing the notebook's problem etc. as much as possible. If you want, feel free to give it a look (note: I tested it only demul, I don't know if it looks different on other emulators):

P.S.: :D I have the preset but no screenshots. Unfortunately I don't have shenmue on my pc anymore, so I can't take screenshots right now.
P.P.S.: I don't know if it makes any difference, but I tested my preset while playing on fullscreen 640x480.

Re: Shenmue I & What's Shenmue Widescreen Iso/Hex patch

:-k I have a feeling Shenmue's engine is designed to not render more than a specific number of NPCs at the same time. This could explain why changing the draw distance doesn't effect them. If it's constant, it might be extra difficult to find and edit such value.

Re: Random Shenmue III Thoughts

[...] I saw *this italian article yesterday night and they were talking about declining funding numbers.
* http://snip.ly/t4rkj?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter#http://www.videogiocare.it/shenmue-3-punto-della-situazione/

I was wondering what they have been smoking but now I suspect them to have reached the slacker backer page through the Kickstarter link.
(yes, they are insignificant, but I can already smell some "innocent" clickbait article from more important medias)

:D They also misspelled "capitanato" (headed) with "capitano" (head) regarding Suzuki and Ys Net. They should check their facts and grammar first! :D

Re: Random Shenmue III Thoughts

Thanks John.

Just let them know that the information they're quoting in the article is almost a year old, as indicated by the date showing on the page when they viewed it. This was a result of a temporary mistake on the website that has now been amended, and the correct, up-to-date information is now being displayed. Backers have NOT been cancelling their preorders, and, given the date shown on the information the article is quoting, there was never any justifiable reason to suggest that they had been.

Will you be okay explaining all of that?
No problem :)

Re: Random Shenmue III Thoughts

Same here, it needs to be approved :???: (actually, yours has just been approved :D )

My comment:
EDIT: ok, it has just been approved :)

Re: Random Shenmue III Thoughts

All right, nevermind (I had the translation ready to be posted, though :D ). Hopefully he'll fix the article, he seems to be a nice guy.

EDIT: he updated the article (I'll try to translate what he said):
UPDATE 14 FEBRUARY - Thanks to the informations from our users Kiske and John Doom, we let you know that the data available on the Kickstarter page is not updated since Shenmue's Kickstarer's deadline ended. Therefore the only reliable data on its crowdfunding is available on the official page Shenmue.link. In addition, the videogame's co-producer, Cédric Biscay, replying on a question about a possible delay for Shenmue 3, said: "No delays expected currently from us."

Re: I contacted YS Net on Kickstarter

And they said development on Shenmue III is still going strong and they said they cant confirm if there will be a update at the end of the month. Im sure there will be though. What are your guys thoughts?
:-k I wonder if not confirming is their PR-way to say there are no major updates planned for this month. In any case, that's ok with me.

You don't get it do you.

All you post here is about "how I have contacted YSNET...". I wouldn't expect them to have an update at the end of this month either with all the replying they have to do you.

Maybe leave them alone? Let them work on the damn thing? That's an option.
I'm sure they can both work on SIII and reply questions without problems: that's what PR is made for :)

Re: Who is your favourite love-interest of the series?

The first night you sleep in Xiuying's apartment, there is a scene when Ryo looks rather longingly towards Xiuying as she sleeps. It is a very well done scene that effectively yet subtly conveys the sexual tension imo.
Are you sure he was actually thinking about her? :D

Just kidding! :)

P.S.: I wonder if Shenhua will become more popular with SIII.

Re: BluePoint Games at work on a "Classic" remake.

The MGS HD Collection wasn't "bug free" :D (http://thesnakesoup.org/forums/Thread-MGS-HD-contains-bugs-such-as-no-bugs), but of course I'd take their works over any other ****** remaster other developers did :\
That said, even though BluePoint has worked especially on Sony's franchises, they mentioned it's for "current-gen game systems", so I think that whatever title they're working on, it's probably not an old Sony exclusive (or, at least, not anymore). There's a chance it could be a Sega title, maybe Shenmue, but I can't put my finger on it just yet, we really don't have enough informations.
Anyway, I think it's safe to assume that it's not Metal Gear Solid: even though its style and attention to details are great to this day, its technology is just too dated to even consider a simple remaster (unless they use the GC remake, but that is owned by Nintendo and it's also not very popular among fans).

Re: BluePoint Games at work on a "Classic" remake.

In regards to Metal Gear Solid HD Collection possibly not being as bug-free (had to chuckle at your pun, by the way :)) as would be preferred, can you name a single issue you encountered that soured the experience from a technical perspective?
Indeed not one, that's why I said I'd take their works over the others. They listened to us and kept fixing their Collection, they cared about their work.

P.S.: that pun is not mine ( :D though I wish it was), they used it back in the day at thesnakesoup.

Re: Why is Shenmue II better than Shenmue I?

:D What else is there to say that BlueMue didn't cover? I agree with him, specifically:
[...] As mentioned in the other topic I do feel that the changes in Shenmue II made it more streamlined wich leads to it becoming more (even if only slightly) of what's typical for a video game.
[...]
- More dialogue options
[...]
- More secrets and sidequests to discover
- More gameplay elements that always introduce something new (rock smashing, leaf catching, etc)
[...]
- More fights, more QTEs
[...]
- Money plays a bigger role and comes with lots of ways to earn and spend it
[...]
- Time skip option
- Save anywhere
If possible, I'd like SIII to further develop and improve on these aspects :)

Re: Persona ish games?

:) I agree, you should try one of the two Persona 2 games. Only "Eternal Punishment" was localized in English on ps1, but they were both remade and fully localized on psp.
And if you're into the SMT series, try the first one. Seriously, when I played it, it actually felt like I was on a journey, exploring dangerous environments and finding out dark secrets, much MUCH more than SMT4. The only downside, is that SMT1 requires a lot of grinding compared to other modern RPG games, sometimes it will test your patience because of this :D

:D I knew I shouldn't have picked that word. It's hard (no pun intended :D ) for me to put my thoughts into words in English, because this is not my native language.

Bluecast wrote: P3 seems kinda depressing.

Now that you mention it, SMT1 is probably even more depressing that P3 :D

Re: Shenmue 3 trailer is FINALLY HERE!!

Nevermind trolls and haters, I don't think we should blame regular gamers and journalists for looking at the trailer and saying that it's not good enough: unlike us, they may not know that it's WIP, but let's be objective: have you ever seen a trailer showing footage in such a state? Trailers are supposed to show off what the game will look like when released. Be honest: it this was the trailer for another game, wouldn't you have been at least concerned?

Re: Shenmue 3 trailer is FINALLY HERE!!

Peter confirmed he saw "90%" of the Gamescom footage last year at the backer dinner.
I think he also said some parts were different and used a lot of placeholders. Basically what we've seen now is that trailer, but updated with the latests improvements, not necessarily older footage. Suzuki probably means that they coulnd't polish the content on time for Gamescom, so the footage looks still WIP.

Re: Fist of the North Star (New)!!! PS4

:) It may indeed fit better in the Yakuza engine then it did in the Dynasty Warrior one: after all, Fist of the North Star is not only about fighting and exploding heads (not sure about Ken working as a barman, though :D).

Re: Fist of the North Star (New)!!! PS4

:) Ken's Rage was a fantastic game, I replayed it so many times over the years! The only thing I think it lacked was a sense of adventure: the game usually dropped you in the middle of a battlefield to fight the bad guys, but Ken is also supposed to be on a quest (actually more than one). That's why I think it may fit better in the Yakuza engine, because Yakuza is all about both fighting AND quests :D
