Re: Shenmue 3 Kickstarter announced at E3 2015!

Hi everybody. Here's another shenmue fanatic who came back from the catacombs to praise the good news. words are not enough to express how I feel. But then, i had a strange feeling this two days. Can't stop thinking how many shenmue lovers had passed away in those 15 years. The just couldn't make it. So my prayer here tonight is for those fallen Shenmueholics. Here's a toast for you all!

Re: Shenmue 3 Kickstarter announced at E3 2015!

This may be worth translating if someone knows french.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKb0vtQz8xo
These are the highlights

-A game room that may become an arcade is included in the stretch goals
-scrolls that allow you to directly master new moves will be obtainable through gambling and sidequests
-E3 trailer was gameplay footage and not a film
-There will be a conference named MAGIC on the 27th of February where they will reveal a lot more about shenmue 3 so remember to tune in on that date

Re: Shenmue 3 Kickstarter announced at E3 2015!

Hello Shenmue Friends. This might be important

I'm a little worried about the low quality art shown at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to offend anyone, but I though that it might scare some possible backers who could think that Shenmue is only an amateur project. So, I decided to make some banners in order to attract more and more backers. I want to keep this easy for the eye, with concise information, but If you have a good idea to improve the banners, please let me know.

Feel free to share.

Re: "$30 on the 3rd" - The Road To $10 Million

Pledge totals unlock the ability to receive a reward, but can act completely independent of them (iirc) So, for example you could pledge $1m (please do btw) and just select the Shenmue Lives reward.

Shenmue II 100% COMPLETE Notebook Released!!

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j290/PeterC2005/fpBZJq9_zpshovs0qau.jpg

Its been a long and hard process, but for the first time ever, its my honour to give you all the 100%COMPLETE NOTEBOOK GUIDE FOR SHENMUE II.

I started the project a few months ago, and after lots of long nights and frustration, here is the finished product, firstly hosted by GameFAQ, and also a MS text. file for you to download.

The guide is text only, and follows the same format as the original Shenmue notebook guide that's been on GameFAQ for many years, completed by Force Vector. Its a simple "here's the entry - here's how to get it" piece, so hopefully you wont have too much trouble following it.

Here are the links, and also there is now a sticky topic in the Shenmue II forums for discussion and any questions.

Re: Stuff in Shenmue

That is actually a different Baisha village. Shenmue III will feature a Hakka walled village with Tulou buildings named Baisha, which is actually more typical in Fujian than Guanxi (Guilin) but they exist all over Southern China in various forms.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNl_WbeFyiU

I don't think they've specifically said if Shenmue III is set within Guilin/Guanxi or not.

Re: Shenmue 2 Full English Xbox Speech mod for Sega Dreamcas

Imagine how great it would be to get a hold of a GDR burner and a case of blanks and make the best damn reproductions possible with them. I would pay a premium for that.

I get frequent power cuts in my area. I'd be pretty pissed if I got one during burning to a costly GD-R lol

Can't wait to get myself a USB-GDEMU in the near future. Hearing amazing things about them.

Re: Shenmue 2 Full English Xbox Speech mod for Sega Dreamcas

Ok, I mirrored the uncompressed 1gb per disc CDI pack and added lots of info to the end of the original post on the front page. I also cleaned it up significantly and removed much dead info and links. It now looks much more presentable. Thanks to all involved that I mention.

Emulators/Optical Disc Emu's.

1gb uncompressed audio, CDI images of Shenmue 2 Xbox English Speech mod. 2.43gb download, extracts to 4.11gb's.

For tips on how to get near perfect emulation of this game, you can follow the info found here! This has the original file for the 1gb release if you see my link above down.

Re: Shenmue 2 Full English Xbox Speech mod for Sega Dreamcas

I wish the GDEMU and similar devices would become cheaper and more available and widespread.
Then this whole messing with the laser and having to cut and downsample things to fit the games on CDRs would be a thing of the past (it already is for me).

Re: Shenmue 2 Full English Xbox Speech mod for Sega Dreamcas

I had ordered the Banana disc's but they came in defective. This happened 2 times already now. I ordered some 100 min discs from the UK at the beginning of this month so I am just waiting on them to arrive in the US now. After I take care of the people I have on back order I will think about getting these hard to get discs to whoever I can, if this brand works out. These discs are white and printable this time so anybody can print off legit looking cd's. The only problem is these discs are more expensive than the ones from China and I have to pay for shipping.

I will reiterate. Stay away from the Deal Extreme Banana Media brand 99 min discs.

Re: Should Ryo keep the pickle up in his backside?

I like the "Stiff" Ryo.

The apparent lack of Ryo's emotions helps me feel my own emotions about the various game situations...
I don't know whether I am making myself clear or not. If Ryo wasn't so emotionally disconnected, I would follow his feelings more than listening to my own feelings.

Re: Should Ryo keep the pickle up in his backside?

If the "wait" option from Shenmue II returns, Ryo should adopt a hands-on-hips pose while raising an eyebrow and tapping his foot.

"I'm waiting..." he should say, just to make it clear that he's a rude dude with attitude.

We are doing the release as a patcher and not as a full image because of, more than legal issues, my personal policy as a romhacker/fantranslator. I'd like to keep things small and manageable. People who have the original GD-ROM and the SD Card Adapter should have no problems dumping their disc into a GDI image (.BIN or .ISO makes no difference), but I know this site doesn't go against releases, so: I know it's a bit hard finding a GDI image online, but it's possible. If you folks are going to do a full release, I know I can't stop you so I'd just ask you to do not make profit out of us.

That said, let's go to the details: The patcher has been tested with the following discs:
- 610-7179-0133A 11M1 o 11MB1 (TOSEC Version)
- 610-7179-0133A H1723E.

Both of those are the Blue Disc versions, any other Blue Disc or the Famitsu releases have not been tested . Should be fine if the data tracks are identical (We're fiddling with the audio tracks, but we're not needing an exact equivalent of them, which seems to be the biggest difference between versions).

And now the specifics. All the menus, texts and subtitles have been fully translated into English, Spanish and German. The patcher is multi-language, so you should be able to select your language there. The process lasts around 10 minutes or so. The patcher could be a great example that, with a little modification, we could have a Shenmue modding tool for small mods (Such as the Forklift one, bigger stuff like Undubs won't have that of a meaning).

The patcher takes a GDI image and turns it into a MDS/MDF image file that should run on a real hardware or in emulator. It has a dummy file for 700MB full size, all the CDDA tracks have been preserved thanks to the previous research by HyKan, and we've got a sortfile for reordering stuff (We've moved towards the inner part beta/unused stuff that's around). It's not the best optimization but it can be improved. Nothing is ripped or downsampled.

We've translated a couple of extra needed graphics here and there, such as the "Closed" signs in the shops that are not available for the demo (like Tomato Convenience Store), Yukawa's Business Card or the poster from the ending scene. There's a couple of things I'd like to improve in a possible future release, but for now, we've done all we could. The rest is like it was in the original game.

Some troubleshooting: We've used Demul 0.5.8.2. for the emulation testing, and so far the only major issue it has is that some graphics show borders instead of being transparent. That doesn't happen in real console. In real console we've seen some delays with the activation of lipsynch or subtitles, which I don't know if it's our fault or if it already happened in the unmodified game.

If the patcher dumps some error, please report it back here, on this topic. The patcher will usually allow you to copy the error to the Clipboard, and also generate a log.txt file in the same folder where the application is. Upload both and send them here.

And... I'm tired as hell, we've been working on the last issues until the last minute. If I'm missing stuff, it's either on the readme or you can ask me here, as I'll be doing the English troubleshooting on this topic. Enjoy.
( EDIT: Original title was "Why What's Shenmue never got a translation attempt?")

I just dissected What's Shenmue for fun, thanks to Sizious tools:
- The subtitles script has (EDITED) 67.748 bytes of japanese text.
- The FACEs part have been directly copypasted from the Passport translation.
- All the graphics are editable.
- The small font is included and working so we have 44x44 characters per line.

Only difficulties:
- Like with the main games, editing the 1ST_READ.BIN.
- Text justification is odd. Mostly justified to the left, but sometimes centered. We can re-center it the ugly way (Adding spaces to the left)
- Any extra hacks needed: Loading screens and other small stuff. There's a presumed Japanese language changer in the game to remove.

I tried to search around this forum but with no results. So, I'm just posing the question here. Sizious made it possible, yes, so, why nobody is interested?

EDIT 2014/04/20: The project has finally started, here's the current team:
- Translation: Rakim, Switch
- Graphics Editing: BlueMue, IlDucci
- Hacking: YZB (When he can), IlDucci
- Main translation tools by the ShenTrad Team: Manic, ShenDream, Sizious

Re: Shenmue Dojo vs. Social Networks

I think it's fantastic that Shenmue has gone from one or two small online forums to span out across social media the way it has. I certainly don't see it as a "vs" or that any medium is better than the other. There are great fans across the world who have their own personal preferences as to how and where they get their Shenmue related news from, and converse with others. I like to think of us all as a collective team, which stand as equal pillars that now form one huge online Shenmue Community.

The Dojo will continue to live on well after Shenmue 3, regardless of what comes after. It remained in place for 14 years without major Shenmue news so I don't see how here, or any of the other Shenmue fan outlets will be at risk in the wake of others.

I'm not sure what you are implying exactly, but I can only read your post and feel that you think it is a competition, or one outlet is bigger than the other, which in fact makes me extremely sad. I've seen some attitudes across all outlets which also imply this, and I feel that's very wrong, and damaging to what we are supposed to represent, considering we are all looking to achieve the same goals. I read all outlets, and there's always room for more so long as the fans want it. But as with all public forums, there are things I like about some places, and also things i don't like, so I will just contribute when I feel I want to, regardless of where the platform is across the net.

Shenmue I, Shenmue II & What's Shenmue Widescreen HEX hack.

Hi I bring you an hex fix to patch a Shenmue I 1ST_READ.BIN/ISO/GDI/CDI.

This hex hack will make Shenmue display in Widescreen aspect ratio without clipping or glitches unlike NullDC extra geometry option or previous action replay codes, it will basically render the extra geometry necessary for 16:9 TV's.

The hack works great on emulators, as do on a real Dreamcast. (Click Show for download links)
