Re: Great Gaming Designs and Artwork

Image
I couldn't find any artwork from the game but I find that Journey still stands out when it comes to art and design this generation. It's even more impressive in motion though with the moving sand etc.

Re: Recommend I a controller for a Nexus 7

You can use PS3 and 360 controllers:

http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/feature.asp?c=45227

It's pretty easy by the sounds of it too, so give it a shot.

Re: Random Thoughts

Good luck Dan. Its a hell of an experience, but it is what you make it. I will keep my opinions to myself because its different for everyone and it also involves a bit of luck in terms if right place, right time and right people. Anyways, in terms of jobs specifically, your arriving at a horrible date like I did, if you want or depend on getting a job quickly. If you both do, get on it before Christmas, because the mistake I made was thinking I'd get a job in January, which is almost impossible. Australians take from Christmas right through to Australia day as a holiday, like their summer holidays which more or less means the market shuts down. I wasn't told this and was on the verge of total broke before I landed a shitty waiter job the first week of February. Watch out for that.

As for Melbs, ive only been there four a weekend. Its OK but I am a city guy and prefer the hustle bustle of Sydney. Melbourne is a lot more relaxed and laid back, but the amount of jobs there are less than Sydney. Check out the Crown Casino into the CBD its great, plus the two nightclubs in there are unreal. The RnB one is more or less modelled on the Malibu Club from Vice City. Another great spot is Cloud nightclub on King Street, its 6 levels of madness, with absolutely everyone off their faces. There's a new DJ every hour on each of the levels from 4pm-9am. Mental. St Kilda is total Backpacker and good crack. Like a mini Ibiza, and there are lots of suburbs which are big into the AFL. You have North Melbourne, Geelong, Collingwood, St Kilda. Its massive AFL land.

That's all I know about Melbourne really, but if you change to Sydney then give me a shout and I will keep you sweet there with where to go and getting work n all that :nice!:

I only use Ableton for live mixes, and I stay away from FL Studio. Downloaded it a few years back though to accommodate Sourface when we used to work on shit so I'll probably have some VSTs, I'm just not sure on cross-version compatibility.

You know, when I first knew qwerty, he had posted a pic of my avatar modified to look as though I was holding a fat cock.
It was at that moment I was not sure if we were going to be friends.

I was still young and still had a lot to learn about loving cock and women's clothing. But after several years of being hated adversaries we were able to put our differences aside and finally become, well, two people that no longer wanted to rip each others gizzards out.

Re: War in Syria

Yes fuck the US military who rape women on a daily basis and often the CO who is the one doing it. Except the women are the ones getting punished for getting raped. Check out invisible War. great doc http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2120152/

Fuck the US military who went to iraq and took photo's torturing men. Fuck the US military killing thousands of civilians. Fuck the US military in Vietnam often raped and murdered families because they were "chinks" It doesn't mean fuck every single one but many like anyone by human nature abuses the badge. I spent time in a mental ward with one. I knew a guy from my dad who wore an ear necklace after nam. One of my coaches was on the Korean war.
Also anyone remember the video with the soldier torturing and killing dogs? There are always a few good men like Pat tilman but good men like anywhere are the exception not the rule.

Well I remember a news article a few months back of some guy who pretended to be disabled to get money through a YouTube gaming channel. Since that was highlighted in the news I'm going to assume 99.9% of people in that situation are faking it. Don't get upset if I assume you're faking your condition now I'm just using your logic.

I didn't view you in a great light but this really fucking disgusts me and pisses me off. You've reached a new low in my eyes. Someone like you has no right to label people and judge them on a constant basis like you always do. You may have met a few bad eggs but every person I've met or known involved in the army are amazing people who have pretty much had their lives fucked because they wanted to serve. I like to think of myself as a morally good person and I will always help others out before thinking about myself but I am pathetic when you compare what those people do.

Tell yourself I'm a troll cunt and carry on calling them murderers and rapists. Just next time you do a fucking unboxing of some shitty video game think about what those 'good' army people are doing and what you call them and realise all you're doing with your life is opening a box for a video only 12 people will watch and cringe at.

Re: War in Syria

Have to agree with Riku and Qwerty here. A lot of my friends served in the military. 99.9% of them are not these evil people. Also the benefits the disabled receive in the States is amazing. Living in Japan sucks for people with disabilities. If one were to have an incident, they couldn't even get to a hospital in time to save themselves. Most hospitals here aren't even open Saturday or Sunday. Getting an ambulance to come takes hours sometimes. Health and medicine regulations are so different here that Doctors will likely not prescribe medicine that is prescribed back home, they may refuse to prescribe anything at all. Everyone that thinks Japan is some advanced society that is much better than the West needs a reality check. It is a privilege to live in the United States for the disabled.

That's just comparing with Japan, which is still worlds above a lot of other countries. But know that before you think other countries will take care of you better, you need to count your blessings and be thankful you are even alive.

Also being an American currently not in the country I would like to say strongly that about 90% of us want nothing to do with this war in Syria.

Re: the halloween thread

Halloween is another one of those holidays that Americans made up as they have terrible attention spans. They seem to need something going on every month to stop themselves going crazy. Over here we just have Christmas and Easter (Which isn't much). None of this bullshit like Thanksgiving and 4th of July.

Re: Random Thoughts

Prove me wrong you Leicesterian. Prove me wrong. Give me one good reason to step foot out of the greatest city in the world and into the land of bumpkin?

Whilst I agree Leicester isn't anything special and neither is the east mids, I will advise you and others that a trip to the UK is wasted if you do not go outside London :P

As Alan Partridge put it, "Catch the train to London, stopping at Rejection, Disappointment, Backstabbing Central", London is full of cunts(not calling anyone on here from London directly a cunt), who are always in a rush to get to nowhere. FACT. Londoner's are not friendly at all.

London isn't England. It's its own conurbation of overpopulated, overpriced towns with about the only thing in common with northern England being the M1 motorway.

You don't have to step far out of London to realise how much you're missing out, there is literally nothing that beats a summers day in an English village sitting in a beer garden whilst the cricket is on.

Generally speaking, if you want to visit historical buildings, national parks, nice waterfront's you need to be outside of London.

Not to say London doesn't have history, the opposite but I'd say you'd get more of the more spectacular sights out of London. Also some of the prettiest towns in the UK are York, Lincoln, Chester etc. The West Country, Wales, The Lake District and The Scottish Highlands boasting some of the worlds nicest scenery as well.

Talking of cultural impact, northern towns which have made impacts on the World in general, Manchester, Liverpool. Other great cities are Leeds and Sheffield.

There is much to be seen in this green and pleasant land.

I can't be the only guy who doesn't want Shenmue 3, right?

I think this website is a lot better at preserving the timelessness of a true classic than pushing (or mostly just discussing) a sequel.

Don't get me wrong - if the game was announced today I would have to buy a new console just to play it. But I think deep down the majority of you are aware the series has such a niche following that even if it didn't have a terrible history of financial loss, it still wouldn't sell to make a return as per today's requirements.

Just give it up. I don't even mean any offense by this, because I took part in some of them, but if you were to list all of the stunts you've pulled to get Sega's attention, some of you would be embarrassed. Not because of the actual lengths you went to do something, but because they were huge failures. You have spent over a decade now holding onto your seats in blind and fading anticipation.

They won't even release downloadable HD versions to consoles. Didn't it take Sega like eight years to make Shenmue 2 backwards compatible with the 360?

Let's put the series to rest and accept the fact the series is over. It might be a lot more fun and open ended dreaming about the impossible remaining chapters than hoping they get made.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts (Read OP Before Posting)

@WRC: Not for a really long time, by the looks of things (not since the original game).

@Kenny: Well, Square-Enix had ridiculous expectations for Tomb Raider & Hitman too and they still made a profit on those, despite the "expectations" being almost double what they ended up with.
It's what is "profitable" vs "expectations". If you look at the Splinter Cell series, they always sold around 1m since the original (they've never been amazing sellers after the first game); so I have no idea how they made an expectation that it had to sell 5 million .

I mean, here's the figures for each entry, somebody posted in NeoGAF:

Splinter Cell Xbox - 2.9 million units
Splinter Cell PS2 - 2.4 million units

Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow Xbox - 1.5 million units
Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow Ps2 - 1 million units

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory Xbox - 1.1 million units
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory PS2 - 0.8 million units

Splinter Cell Double Agent Xbox 360 - 1.1 million units
Splinter Cell Double Agent PS3 - 0.2 million units

Splinter Cell Conviction Xbox 360 - 1.8 million units

Also, in other gaming news:

Video game cover artist Greg Martin – known for his work on such classic titles as Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Pac-Man, Landstalker and more – has passed away.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/9f/Sonic2_European_Box.jpg/250px-Sonic2_European_Box.jpg

Writing on the NintendoAge forum, a friend informed readers of Martin’s passing, and posted a eulogy for his fans.

An excerpt reads, “Greg was the rare person who both worked in and was a fan of the work of others in his industry. I don’t think he ever lost that sense of wonder he had as a teenager for really great artwork, and he was a collector himself of artwork, movies, art books, and other things. He was a huge fan of Frank Frazetta, Gil Elvgren, Hal Foster, and dozens if not hundreds of other artists.”

Perhaps his most memorable work was the front cover of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, released in 1992.

He began as an artist at Hanna Barbera, before moving on to the work for companies like Nintendo and Sega, creating gorgeous airbrushed paintings by hand.

Martin created iconic box art for numerous high-profile games throughout his career, such as Sonic 2, 3, CD, Spinball and Chaos, Pac-Man, Landstalker, The Flintstones, and Duck Tales 2.

EDIT: Holy SHIT, this guy is/was a LEGEND, didn't even realise so many VHS and game covers were all drawn by him [Batman: The Animated Series, Freakazoid, Scooby Doo] this guy's art personifies 90s artwork for me, as a child, such a nostalgia bomb right about now seeing it all again:
