Popped in some random games yesterday, just for the hell of it.
Got my copy of Monster World IV in the mail, so I had to play that. Only finished the first "dungeon", but damn, it felt so good playing it. Just such a smooth, fun game.
Also threw in Rocket Knight Adventures for a few levels, since I bothered to hook up my Genesis. Still easily one of the best games on the system. Music, graphics, control, personality, challenge... it's all there, and it's all excellent. Made me want to play the DLC Rocket Knight game. Really pissed that that hasn't found its way on to a disc yet.
Played the first stretch of Star Ocean: Til the End of Time for PS2. I played through most of the game years ago, but have kind of been itching to do it again more recently. I was pretty surprised by how nostalgic it got me.
Fantastic combat, crisp, colorful graphics, very nicely-orchestrated music, and a surprisingly great level of overall presentation (didn't even realize it had 16:9 support before).
I remember being amazed that it was on two discs back when I first got it, too. That was unheard of at the time for me.
"Two DVDs?!?!"
Easy to laugh about now, but back then it was kind of impressive all in itself.
I finished most of the game years ago; got to the second disc, at least, and I had already seen the game's big "twist", so I think I was almost near the end (probably around the 3/4 mark). Really want to finish it one day.
Also played a bit of Xenosaga which, despite owning the full trilogy, I've never actually played before. Really liked what was there. Combat was Xenogears-esque, and the graphics are of course very attractive and smooth. Nice presentation.
Only thing that kept eating at my nerves was the english cast's pronunciation of KOS-MOS's name. Somehow none of them seemed to understand that it's a play on the word "cosmos", and kept pronouncing it with a long O sound, like "coze-mose". Just started to get on my nerves, since I knew in my head how it was supposed to sound.
