I liked those alot, in both games. They worked and they were interesting, I don't necessarily think they should have been forced on everyone, but they're not werehog.

The wisps never felt like power ups to me because they didn't actually power up sonic and add a little something to his game play, instead they completely changed his gameplay. I got so annoyed playing colors because each level was so inconsistent with how I played it. It seemed like every two seconds I was stopping my platforming groove just to use some stupid rocket or sticky wheel that just felt awkward. It is my opinion after all, and my opinion is that colors is just not fun to play. At least with Unleashed you only have to play the werehog during the werehog stages... not all the time. Generations, however, I thought was great. Also, if they have a problem with "hold right till you win" syndrome, then that's a problem with the level design.

I just really don't understand the mind-blowing praise that colors gets, personally. If you like it, cool, but I don't and I'm not "wrong" not to.

*also, I too like the gem hunting... and the big the cat stages... *

Sonic Generations made it work pretty well. Not because it's just optional but was done totally different.

I do actually agree with you conceptually. I wish they had the balls to just give Knuckles, Tails etc their own stages or switch to them for part of the stage instead of interrupting "sonic time". What makes sonic good is the fact that it has a few different playstyles (the sonic games featuring only sonic, or 1 version of sonic are really bland)

In generations the friends get their own stages.

In terms of level design actually giving sonic other stuff to do is the best way to change yp the stage, making so many "puzzles" and moving platforms makes the game too slow, the best way to make sonic interesting is to make it so that holding right makes the game harder but actually paying attention (which is harder) and taking the branches is easier.

Man theres alot about sonic and how it works thats hard to explain, and so many splinters of fans that theres no way to make a sonic game everyone will like.

At least we can all breathe a little more easily now that Sonic seems to be heading back towards the right direction. I'm really excited for the next sonic game, whenever it inevitably gets announced.

The fact no retail game was announced last year gives me hope they gave up on making it a yearly thing.
Maybe SEGA is just working on a next gen one and make it yearly. Just hope they learned their lesson

I loved those, but then again SA2 is my favourite sonic game with sonic 2.

everyone keeps on say that SA2 was the beginning of the downfall of sonic but personally I loved the game :dunno:

Love SA & SA 2 but in retrospect not very good. Enjoyable and can be very fun just not great games. SA still one of my faves. I have nostalgia tied in SA2 heavily

If people think about it Sonic really started to mess with gimmicks with Sonic & Knuckles,Sonic 3D Blast,Sonic R,Sonic Fighters. Terrible games(minus knuckles). Not lie Sonic had crap since after SA2 but before. To me the start of the downfall of the 3D games was Heroes

yeah same here, heroes was the only sonic game I just gave up on because I wasn't having fun. I skipped 06 and unleashed and picked up generations only a few months ago, it was a fun game. Still need to finish colours

Been so long but remember a level going for 15 minutes. Sonic is never supposed to last more than 5. Then got to a Casino part and by that point was so disgusted and pissed I asked for the game as a B day gift.

That song makes me smile. It might be bad but has a charm to it. Same as the game.
