I'd say their quality dropped off after the ps2 generation. They had a lot of great games that generation.

They've been making the Yakuza series for years, and have actually been releasing a good chunk of them in the west. They've already got my trust.

In Segas defense, that has been out for a while. and its F2P http://www.pso2.com/us/

LOL go to that site AG. It's still not been released here in the West and it most likely never will be either. Even after they demoed it again last year saying it would be. There are ways to get around the IP blocking they do, but its still playing on servers halfway around the world. Even with a great home connection, its a lag fest at times. Supposedly they were lifting the IP banning they were doing to prevent people in the West from playing, but it was still present last time I played.

I went to that site, and I was going by the information displayed there but alas, there is no link or place to click to actually play the game, and the latest news is about PAX 2012. So scratch that off the list, another dud for sega.

I really hope we get Phantasy Star Nova here in the West. But they've actually said they have no plans for it so I doubt it. Would be nice if they surprised us with it one day though.

There's no way enough people would be insane enough to actually buy another sega console at this point.

So many things to say about SEGA and how many opportunities they've missed over the years since the Dreamcasts domise, but I'll bite my tongue, as it just feels like piling on at this point.

If a good port of Shenmue 1 and 2 is released before Shenmue 3, then, as far as I'm concerned, all sins are forgiven.

Sega do not understand at all.

Take sonic for example, the games that were coming out on PS3 were pants, but when Sonic Generations came out it had a very good reception, the nostalgia of how good it used to be all updated and put into a decent game, and then they start making shit like Sonic boom. If they had any sense they'd try to mimic the old mega drive games as much as possible, instead of trying to drastically change sonic completely and trying to appeal to a 'new crowd' whilst shitting on the real hardcore fans.

Just by looking at the sonic series you can see how Sega fucked things up.

If they release Shenmue HD they'd be on the right tracks, surely they can see that fans do want it.

Have been giving this a lot of thought since this article came out. Rather interesting that they make a declaration stating: "We did our best to build a relationship of mutual trust with older fans of Sega, but looking back, there’ve been some titles that have partially betrayed that [trust] in the past 10 years" and yet they still have not released any sort of statement or comment regarding Shenmue 3 or Yu-san's project as a whole. Honestly, is there a franchise, or a fan base for that matter, in their IP stable that has been 'betrayed' more than us? Hell at least they continued doing Sonic games, albeit at varying levels of quality...I digress.

I realize that Sega let Suzuki, technically still an advisor within the company, use the IP and that there may be some business/legal issues with that and with Sony's involvement that could limit the scope of what can they say...But they can't even give us a baseline level of good luck/congratulations :!: :?:

I don't think any gaming company has squandered as much strong IP as SEGA. The good news is they still hold to rights to that IP, but it's possible that they lost a lot of talented people over the years. For me, I think the starting point is:

-Release PSO2 in the west on PS4/PC
-Announce Shenmue 1/2 HD for PS4/PC
-Announce 1 new game from their stable of IP. My hope is Jet Set Radio with a cool multiplayer component.

I think there could also be the opportunity to take a bunch of their older IPs from the Genesis era and start to make modern PSN/XBLA/PC type games that are smaller and cheaper.

And now I feel like making a master list of COOL ASS GAMES/IP that Sega holds! Feel free to chime in! (Let's not include ATLUS)

Shenmue
Sonic
Phantasy Star
Skies of Arcadia
Jet Set Radio
Streets of Rage
Yazuka
Golden Axe
Valkyria Chronicles
Shining Force
Shinobi
House of the Dead
Panzer Dragoon
After Burner
Hang On
Outrun
Virtua Fighter
Virtua a bunch of other shit
Crazy Taxi
Ecco the Dolphin
NiGHTS
Super Monkey Ball
Toe Jam and Earl
Altered Beast

I just miss this company, mannnnn. They were big AND took chances with making original and unique games.

Exactly! They have all these properties and are just doing nothing with them. I mean, how pathetic is it that Tekken 7 and Street Fighter 5 are making waves and there is still no indication they are even considering making a new Virtua Fighter? I get the feeling a lot of the problem is due to money, which is probably why the most recent Sonic games have been freemium mobile bullshit (I absolutely hate that some companies are starting to focus on this now), just so they can claw a bit of cash back...let's hope they are serious about doing something, as the company really has become a joke now.
