@Sweaty: Did you stick it out til the end? Eventually Robotnik gets fed up to the point where he just goes "fuck it" and wants to destroy the planet. I feel like it's the best type of end for a would-be dictator's story arc to fail so many times he decided "if I can't have it then nobody can! Especially after years of build-up.

Are you referring to the freedom fighters cartoon? I only ever caught it a few times. Or if you mean Sonic the Comic then no, I think there were quite a few issues after I stopped getting it, which I don't remember being a conscious decision so maybe my local newsagent just quit stocking it and I assumed it was no more.

Yeah the comic from over here. The only Sonic cartoons I seen were the one with Robotnik's two robot assistants n the one where Sonic's in a band with a brother n sister that just kinda came out of nowhere.

Now it's clear why the cancellation of the Archie comic was finally confirmed in recent days. Another comic publisher, called IDW, has gotten the licence to make Sonic the Hedgehog comics starting in 2018:



Honestly, IDW is a good choice. They already have plenty of other licenced comics like Transformers and Ninja Turtles, Sonic is going to fit right in at IDW. Besides, unlike Archie, IDW actually has its shit together, there won't be a repeat of the Penders debacle this time.

Alright, I'll keep this post short. Still kind of tired after marathon Sonic Mania session. PS4 version launched at midnight, I kept playing until about 5am when I managed to beat the game. Could have finished sooner but I took my time exploring the levels and looking for secrets. Still need to go back and collect the rest of the Chaos Emeralds but that can wait. Anyway, long story short - Sonic Mania is one of the greatest games I have ever played in my life!

I won't spoil anything yet but Sonic Mania is absolutely insane. There are certain reality warping powers at work throughout Sonic Mania, resulting in some brilliantly reimaged and new levels that mess with your expectations. Heaps of calls backs to earlier Sonic games, including a lot of love for the 8-bit Game Gear games. One early boss battle in particular will just blow your mind, it makes perfect sense in the context of the zone but I can still hardly believe that actually happened.

Some cool unlockables as well, that you get from completing special stages. Trust me, seeing 'Knuckles & Knuckles mode' is worth the price of admission by itself.

Avoiding this thread is going to be a test of willpower, but there's no way I've ordered a PS4 to complete this game in one sitting. Going to savor this one, even if staying spoiler-free means locking myself under the stairs.

Some thoughts after a few hours of play:

This isn't just a "return to form", this is the best one. This is better than the 16 bit games. This is pure joy in video game form. Every second is fun and exciting, every single second. I was grinning the entire time. Just travelling around, spinning and jumping is an exhilarating experience.

It isn't just a throwback, either. It takes the originals as a foundation and builds on them. Every second something exciting is happening. This is unbelievably good, beyond my wildest expectations.

And it's huge! The levels are gigantic! When I finish a level I get the feeling I've seen maybe 25% of what it has to offer, I'm going to be replaying this game for a long time.

Believe the hype.

Ha! I know what you mean. It was especially cool for me since I was playing Mania with a friend from midnight onwards and we used to play that particular game together competitively years ago. Even remixed the music to it. Amazing..
