My own personal list would different, but I agree, this gen was awesome. People will keep saying the contrary, but it had some absolutely excellent games and experiences either way.

Yeah this gens been great but i now feel new consoles are needed for devs/publishers to hopefully try and make original games again rather than just copy one another with their COD like games.

Plenty of games this gen would be in my top 20

This gen has seem some highs and lows, but I really was blown away by the handheld games. I think for me, since it's such an information age now, we're pretty much bombarded in games we cannot really miss out on, since the information is now out there for us all to see. Back in the 8 bit/16bit/32/64 bit eras and the early CD games eras, we would never hear about certain games until many years later. Tastes change too, but yeah, it's just nice for me to see certain games you just cannot get in stores, appearing on PSN, Wii Store or Xbox Live.

This gen I discovered a love for strategy games (which I rarely dabbled in before), for Japanese role playing games (which I truthfully, never touched before this gen) and for handheld games (which I only occasionally bothered with in the past). So I am thankful for those experiences, yes. I also got to discover a lot of old games for the first this gen (Ivalice: entry into that being Final Fantasy Tactics for PSP; heck that was the first FF game I ever completed, Growlanser, Front Mission: entry into that being 3 followed closely by DS, Ogre saga with my first game being Tactics Ogre, Fire Emblem with the first GBA game being my first FE game, the list goes on and on). Overall, really happy with how much my tastes have diversified and have discovered new genres that I really have fallen for.

On the other hand, I felt like a lot of the sequels disappointed, some publishers taking far too few risks and developers dumbing down their games a little too much. And some really brilliant developers have tragically died, with the talent being transferred on to phone games. I'm sorry, but that is shitty.

People and media stilly Glory about the 16 bit era how it's one of the best gens ever and so much nostalgia. I think I will do that for this gen as well

Theres good and bad, but I'd say this gen was a miss for me.

As much as there are games I really liked, each one is marred by something fairly major. I feel like all of our expectations have fallen and along with them the quality of games in general. We put up with a lot of bullshit in terms of design that we really shouldn't and designers get away with some pretty bad anti-consumer models.

I wouldn't say this gen was shit, but nostalgia aside, this gen produced the glitchiest, buggiest, backwards games to ever be released and this shouldn't be the norm.

^doesn't that stand to potentially get even worse as the gens go on and even more incredible levels of complexity are added?

Possibly, if no one learns their lesson. Does complexity really help all on its own? Does adding more polys help? should we just put physics into everything because we can? Should we spend 6 months on textures or design? Is voice acting our primary concern? How can we turn a profit?

Theres a lot designers need to ask themselves or things will keep getting worse.

Since it's quite a full-on capitalist-driven market now (pretty much), I could definitely believe corners are cut...

its easier to forgive a shitty game like 06 (and it is pretty shitty) if its at the start of a gen. Its the stuff coming out now thats shitty that worries me (ad the fact that people go gaga for it)

Stuff like ACM is despicable and I don't mean the game itself.
Games that are highly praised but buggy as fuck or bad writing but a not as big budget game with the same issues is bashed and hated or ignored. Something might be pushed aside because it's not a certain brand or not on the "right" console no HD.

That get's on my nerves.
