Yeah its better than what could of been unless some publisher thinks it would be cool to have the pass unlock the entire game :|

The best thing that could happen is everyone say screw DRM full stop.

Finish the games you release and don't release all the big games at the same time and maybe people will buy them new?

Pretty shocked to hear stores only get 2% of game sales! No wonder they push used sales so much.

For it to be up to publishers, it would have to impose new restrictions such as the NFC tag chip. It doesn't. There's no way publishers can DRM an offline game on PS4. Online Passes can technically be done on every online system, ever. It's just that they were introduced this gen. Nothing new here, folks. So no words now, only dreams. :D

Full quote.

Jack Tretton at Sony E3 2013 Press Conference wrote:In addition to creating an amazing library of new titles on PlayStation 4, we're focused on delivering what gamers want most, without imposing restrictions or devaluing their PS4 purchases. For instance, PlayStation 4 won't impose any new restrictions on the use of PS4 games.

Yes, that's a good thing. We believe in the model that people embrace today with PlayStation 3 and continue to demand. We just heard you there. When a gamer buys a PS4 disc, they have the rights to the game, they can trade in the game at retail, sell it to another person, lend it to another friend or keep it forever.

In addition, PlayStation 4 disc-based games don't need to be connected online to play.

Or for any type of authentication. If you enjoy playing single-player games offline, PS4 won't require you to check in online periodically. And it won't stop working if you haven't authenticated within 24 hours.

But he said Sony will not stop any from doing it.

Doubt it, publishers are still on fence. With the shit storm made after microsoft reveal show, I don't see them wanting to get some heat on their asses too. Unlike the Xbone, the PS4 system is made to play offline games... that's half of the battle won.

Some think they might hold off for the first year or so and then slowly start using them.

What really annoys you is when they throw DRM on a single player game that has no online function other than updating. Even with games that have a single player campaign and have online multiplayer, I think DRM should be off unless it needs to be on, but its probably easier to code where its just always on instead of coding where it turns off under certain conditions, its just like what all are they really listening in on with Always on DRM? I can understand it for a MMO or a strictly online game, or even a game with single campaign and multiplayer, but I would still prefer a on/off depending. I think publishers/devs have gotten lazy and just say fuck it keep it on all the time. Which brings me to what im worried about now, publishers getting lazy with the PS4/XBO multiplatform games, having a scenerio where if said Xbone game has always on DRM (which it will obviously) so will the PS4 version if for no other reason than to keep it the same, then at some point this method becoming standard for even the exclusive PS4 games just based on the fact that all the XBO games have it, and if the multiplatform games have it too, then fuck it make em all that way. We could still be fucked in that regard, I just hope they ATLEAST have enough sense to make the single player games strictly without it. MS influence could still change the PS4 versions of certain games, and Playstation users could still be fucked in that regard. Also Sony doesnt wanna tell the publishers no, we control all DRM because then certain publishers might jump ship, and sony might not be able to get the games they want on their console that can move units. All im saying is dont be surprised if we see more DRM multi-plat games on PS4.

Now, I have a question because I dont understand quite how DRM works, does DRM affect used games?

I highly doubt that they would suddenly start imposing restrictions on games a year after having established no restrictions. Not saying its you WRC, but sounds like MS fanboy banter to try and keep things going for justification of a Xbox One purchase without feeling guilty for supporting DRM.

Some publishers might, but I just won't financially support their games. Anyone who buys the Bone is giving their tacit approval for DRM, so the harder the Bone flops the more hesitant publishers will be to try this crap. It's obvious which publishers will be most keen to try this bullshit on us, and I hope no one buys their games. Vote with your wallets people!

I don't need to justify any of my purchases and I can still buy both ;-)

Online passes crept in as the gen went along and the guys that started that EA probably wouldn't get rid of them if they didn't have something else in store. Cant see them be happy getting it their way on 1 console and not another buy we shall see.

Again im not saying its you that would start such a rumor to justify buying an Xbox One. Just that, if you listen to that kind of reasoning you're playing into the Xbox fanboy mentality. Kinda like watching Fox News when they say Obama is actually terrorist sympathizer after just killing Osama Bin Laden.

Full interview...

http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/ulnv ... c--stream-

"There's gonna be free-to-play, there's gonna be every potential business model on there, and again, that's up to their relationship with the consumer, what do they think is going to put them in the best fit. We're not going to dictate that, we're gonna give them a platform to publish on. The DRM decision is going to have to be answered by the third parties, it's not something we're going to control, or dictate, or mandate, or implement."

Could just be the same that we have now but that sounds different to how the article worded it.

Still for most gamers the best out come would still be for MS to see sense and leave it all up to the publisher and simply get rid of the 24 hr thing.

All MS has to do is push the backpedal on the MAX and get rid of all that shit that's hurting it.

I'm positive if it starts to fail, they'll do some major changes to keep up. Once the offline thing, the used games thing, and the 24/7 surveillance thing is taken care of then I'll be more confident to buy an XBOX One and play Remedy's Quantum Break (which looks really cool) and Dead Rising (which looks cool).

Reports said they can switch this DRM off at any moment, even consoles out in the world could simply be updated to remove it. They have also shown you can play the games without Kinect and MS have said it can be put in off mode so why not release a 2nd cheaper SKU with no Kinect?

Bro, you can already pre order the console, it's no turning back. The whole system is built around it. Don't let "reports" fool you, but it's your money. If you can buy both I envy you since I don't even know if I can buy one :-({|=

Heard about that with the Kinect. And I can see something like a firmware update getting rid of DRM.

TBH, the mandatory online mode won't affect me as my consoles are always online (and I never had any major issues with connectivity) but it'd be nice to get rid of that for people who have no internet or really shitty internet.
