I am going to have to disagree with you there and say this series absolutely is better with a guide, mission heavy games = guide is best friend. If you have never used a guide or atleast looked at a mission list (which is the meat and potatoes of guides for this series anyway) for these games, there is alot you havent seen of these games.

^^Zackly.
You aren't getting the intended experience if you know exactly what to look out for. And I've personally always found that half the joy in revisiting a game is finding new content; if I were to meticulously look up every single piece of content in a game like this the first time through, replays wouldn't be half as interesting. But eh, can't tell someone how to play their games. It's just what I think about it.
Besides, I think that starting with Yakuza 3, there's actually a function in the game itself that tells you where to search out new side-stories. You talk to a guy and he'll say things like "looks like there's trouble over on Pink St." or something like that. Might have been Y4 that started it... I can't remember which one. Been awhile.

I've looked it up for myself and it seems there were 21 missions which were cut. Still brings the final count to over a hundred. Anything you miss would all be unlocked in Premium Adventure after completing the game.

That was Yakuza 4. The journalist in Shellac. I preferred that method than actually having icons signposted on the mini-map in Dead Souls, and now also in Yakuza 5. But from what I can tell, that can be toggled off.

I hope it gets released with the accompanying vita apps in the west. For now all we can do is support the release of Yakuza 5 and spread the word.

Pretty smart, try and get a few new fans in before Yakuza 5 hits.

Tweet if there are going to be any cuts to the game. I would if I had an account.

That's a good question. At the most I'm expecting Answer X Answer and the Namco drumming game to be cut..
