Not really funny, but ironic enough it made me laugh a little.
I woke up to a weird "bug" on my pc: when using accents (like ´, `, ^ and ~), the keys would input the accent twice instead of just once (meaning it would input ´´, ``, ^^ or ~~), preventing me from writing anything in french. It happened in both web browsers I use, so I thought something was wrong with the keyboard.
Stupidly, I bought a plane ticket online with my credit card shortly after, and accessed my bank account the same way.
Then, I noticed the browser would automatically redirect me when accessing a Microsoft site I visit from time to time, to Google's search page.
"Oh shit.", I said to myself.
So I got some spyware and potential keylogger on my PC. I use MSE as my antivirus solution, and for the first time ever, it let me down. It wouldn't detect anything. I eventually found the name of the culprit, and learned Malwarebytes Anti-Malware could fix it. I tried to go to the website to download it, but I'd get redirected. Tried various ways to prevent redirection, but then the download itself wouldn't work.
So I went to this website I use to get software in a... "ambiguously legal" way. Got the program from there, and it worked like a charm, and now my PC is apparently clean. After canceling my card, changing all my passwords, etc, I thought to myself - yup, piracy just saved my day.
And you'd think I got the keylogger from that site's content, right? Nope, it was actually a pen drive I lent a colleague of mine, that came back infected. Oh, the irony!
Tl, dr: Got rid of a keylogger thanks to pirated security software, found it amusingly ironic.
