Does windows 8 really give better performance in games over 7 for being so light weight? I hear it was designed for cell phones so by the time they got it working on desktops it was running with hardly any resources. Still running 7 myself.

Given compatibility and whatever games are being made now and future, the optimization goes for Windows 8. So yes, performance is better on Windows 8.
