simples:
everywhere else i'm at has a physical contribution system, uploads for example.
the threads have no such feature, to prevent the appearance of group-think.
hell, the places allow a downvote of uploads, just no interaction like that on text related items such as posts.
a reputation earned through effort is no issue, and a good thing, but twenty two 'thumbs up' for me here is absolutely barmy.
by rights, regardless of posts, i should have ZERO likes and a million posts...because SD has no real user contribution system (apart from a few members that run the joint...and it's shenmue specific) and i'm not talking about donations either. (make that a point where i'm at, they refund and ban on account of trying to bribe privs instead of earn them)

the irony is:
when some users actually goto the lengths of typing up a guide, or providing a useful item/artworks, the like, it gets pillaged, and ignored...parasites abound.

looking back to the past, hindsight is 20/20.
here's a example of UK advertising, appealing to the most common denominator, and lead to it's own antisocial phase. (fuck that! try sociopaths/psychopaths)
dead serious, many drones were emulating, and actually doing this shit to random folks. (tangod was a thing, including happy slapping.)
nothing short of assault and battery, and it's one time where the police didn't GAFF, and left the few who could defend themselves and repel borders to do so on their own...and MANY did. (some would cause a brawl by attacking a random queue stander or passer-by.)

as funny as these commercials are to me, the wake of scrotes that followed still remain for the most part, chav mums-n-dads. (ads like this got lifted in the end, just because of a few degenerates. but the more awake side of me sees a plan in early stages, and left it's scars for all time, just like the GVT and banksters want, social divisions.)

It's not about image or popularity, it's about representing yourself well within a community. for what it's worth, i had the same level of at a few other places, there's parallels, but not in the shenmue sense.
