Shenmue Move List

Disclaimer: I decided to do a move list for the entire Shenmue series, which spans across 2 games at this point. I hope that this list (which is also a guide of sorts) helps people better understand the martial arts and perhaps the real meaning behind it, which is more than just kicking butt (I’ll also add moves that are not in the game, but could’ve been).
Tiger Knuckle: X (favours speed) a punch aimed at a point between the nose and mouth.
Lunge Punch: Right X+A (favours rigidity) a basic Baji Style move. The rotation of the waist exerts force.
Hammerfist Strike: No input (no favourability) a strike to the nose using the bottom of your fist.
Knifehand Strike: No input (no favourability) a strike to the side of the neck using the side of your palm.
Frontal Kick: No input (no favourability) a kick to the lower abdomen with the sole of the foot.
Side Kick: No input (no favourability) a kick to the lower abdomen with a quarter rotation with the pivot.
Roundhouse Kick: No input (no favourability) a kick to the side of the opponent using the side of the foot.
Twist and Shout: No input (no favourability) a twist of the opponent’s arm your head often resulting in a flip.
Rain Thrust: Right X (favours speed) a straight punch aimed at a pressure point on the opponent’s side neck.
Elbow Slam: Right X (favours speed) a downward rotation blow aimed at the opponent’s collarbone.
Twist Knuckle: Left X (favours speed) unlike the Elbow Slam, it is thrown horizontally in a sweeping hook.
Upper Knuckle: Left X (favours speed) a strike on the jaw swung by momentarily lowering and rising.
Elbow Assault: Right Right X (favours speed) a move targeted at the center of the opponent’s body with a rush.
Rising Flash: Left Left X (favours speed) a blow to the opponent’s chin thrust by lowering the body and swinging.
Katana Mist Slash: Right Left X (favours speed) a slashing blow with the side of the palm with an advancing step.
Twin Blades: Right Left X (favours speed) a slashing blow thrusted by swinging down the arm and back again.
Sleeve Strike: Left Right X (favours speed) a punch at a mid-level target while taking a step forward.
Pit Blow: Left Right X (favours speed) a mid-level strike by a second punch on the same target.
Iron Palm: X+A (favours speed) a Tai Chi hand move with force delivered by the legs and waist.
Big Wheel: X+A (favours speed) a diagonal blow on the opponent’s collarbone while closing in.
Twin Hand Waves: Right X +A (favours rigidity) a strike on the jaw and chest by using the palm and forearm.
Backfist Willow: Left X+A (favours speed) a powerful surprise attack with a spinning backfist.
Avalanche Lance: Right Right X+A (favours speed) a strike on the pit of the stomach by the elbow bent at an acute angle.
Stab Armour: Right Right X+A (favours speed) a penetrating blow with the palms using power from the back twist.
Double Blow: Left Left X+A (favours rigidity) a blow by 1 hand on the opponent and slamming it with the other,
Mistral Flash: L X (favours speed) a diagonal blow to the area between the shoulder and the nape of the neck.
Swallow Flip: Left X A (favours rigidity) deflecting the opponent’s attack and kicking his leg at the same time.
Crescent Kick: A (favours speed) an upward sword-stroke kick aimed at the opponent’s head.
Trample Kick: A (favours speed) a front kick aiming the front torso of the opponent with the toes.
Hold Against Leg: Right A (favours speed) a low to mid-level kick using the power of the forward leg.
Side Reaper Kick: Left A (favours speed) a low, decisive kick aimed at the outside of the opponent’s knee.
Swallow Dive: Left A (favours speed) after luring the opponent in, a reaping kick is delivered.
Tornado Kick: Right Right A A (favours speed) sweeping out the opponent’s leg while spinning on the pivot leg.
Mud Spider: Left Left A (favours rigidity) a kick on the chin by sliding toward the opponent and making a headstand.
Surplice Slash: Right Left A (favours speed) a back roundhouse kick striking in a downward diagonal motion.
Thunder Kick: Right Left A (favours speed) a middle rotating kick followed by a heel drop.
Hook Kick: Left Right A (favours speed) a hook kick aiming at the opponent’s neck.
Against Cascade: Left Right A (favours speed) a flying knee move made by leaping upward to kick.
Brutal Tiger: Right Left X+A (favours speed) a powerful high-speed reverse roundhouse kick.
Dark Moon: Left Right A+X (favours speed) a kick while delivered while flipping forward in mid-air.
Twin Swallow Leap: L A (favours speed) a heel drop kick made after a spinning kick.
Cyclone Kick: L A (favours speed) a flying back roundhouse with force by jump and rotation.
Windmill: L X+A (favours speed) a flying back kick, aiming diagonally at the opponent’s neck.
Shadow Reaper: L Y+A (favours speed) sliding the ground forward to sweep the feet out.
Overthrow: B (favours speed) the opponent is lifted over the back and is thrown over.
Sweep Throw: Right B (favours speed) the opponent’s inner thigh is swept up to throw.
Vortex Throw: Left B (favours rigidity) the practitioner falls back to throw the opponent overhead to rear.
Mist Reaper: Right Right B (favours speed) grabbing the opponent’s and sweeping the opponent’s pivot leg.
Demon Drop: Left Left B (favours speed) while throwing the opponent, the practitioner flips and lands on him.
Shoulder Buster: Right Left B (favours speed) grasping the arm and executing an armlock to pin.
Tengu Drop: Left Right B (favours speed) lifting the opponent on the shoulder and dropping him headfirst.
Darkside Hazuki: B (favours speed) closing in on the opponent’s side to throw down while spinning.
Back Twist Drop: B (favours speed) the throw is executed with a twist toward the rear.
Arm Break Fire: Right Left Left B (favours speed) a complex move damaging the opponent’s arms in multiple areas.
Tiger Storm: Right Left Left B B (favours speed) crouching momentarily and lunging headfirst into the opponent.
Shadow Step: Right Y+B (favours speed) evading the opponent and moving back into his blind spot to attack.
Shadow Blade: Right Y+B X (favours speed) striking the back of the neck after moving into opponent’s blind spot.
Cross Charge: Right Right Y+B (favours rigidity) evading the opponent’s attack diagonally to make body attack.
