I enjoyed the Force Awakens, it was exciting to think "holy shit, a continuation after the original trilogy, this has been a long time coming" but now after seeing The Last Jedi that has dulled, it just seems like they are trying to throw all this stuff in our face to make it blatantly obvious they are going to make a slew of films and that we need at least 1 star wars movie each year by dropping hints here and there introducing characters and elements from god knows how far into the future of this franchise, this isnt comic book movies just concentrate on whats already there you money churning plebs. Yeah it seems like the modern "cool thing to do" inevitable humor is present, and i am hit or miss with most of it, maybe im just a star wars purist and want quality over quantity. I am more interested in the spin off movies at this point, Rogue One was interesting, and the Han Solo and Obi Wan movies might be something, but the up coming trilogies that are trying to hard to build on each other I may take a pass on now.
I dont really want to talk about all the plot points and story elements of The Last Jedi because there is honestly too much stuff going on and its partially a jumbled mess. They tried to hard to incorporate some things and also dragged some parts one too long. I think its a fun action packed film and I while I didnt hate it I didnt love it either. And I agree with most of the spoiler posted above, all fan speculation after The Force Awakens were all swept under the rug and it seemed in effort to just go the opposite direction for varieties sake, really bogged down those characters in the process too. I liked everything except the main story and characters, and alot of stuff didnt make sense, they really botched Lukes character, and I think my favorite character of the film was Benicio Del Toros. Fin just lost me as what direction he was trying to head in, and parts of kylos story were solid but then it seemed they did something equally stupid with him just as fast as you started thinking that.
If you look at how powerful and over the top all the Jedi were in the prequels (which was one of the elements I actually liked) the new generation of Jedi look like push overs, and that is especially true with the new trilogy. They didnt give a good understanding of how Rey really got so powerful, and shes the new anakin as far as I can tell (slave child mysteriously has incredible force powers with parent issues) Wonder what Reys midichlorian count was? lol
