I can see it now! After a week of investigating, Fuku-san learns that he may be able to find information on Chinese criminals at the Heart Beats Bar. On his way there, he has to walk through an alley and runs into two large, drunk guys that look like sailors. As he attempts to go around the first one, he's intentionally blocked by the man. "Go home!" yells the seaman. Fuku-san shifts his weight, clenches his fists, looks the man in the eye, and replies, "okay," before turning around and heading back to the dojo. He needed a few more years to practice his Pit Blow anyway.

No, the whole point of the story is that it's a young man's journey toward manhood and self discovery.
Besides avenging the death of your child is a closed journey; there is no room for growth.
"Shenmue isn't a story about revenge at all; its a story of personal growth ; Ryo won't even care about revenge anymore by the end of this."
If your child was killed no way could you let the feelings of revenge go like Ryo will.
