about shenhua and sha hua

I´m so confused about the two names, sha hua is the name of shenhua in japan?

I never really got the exact truth on this...I just assumed that it was bad translation or something. Or else they decided to change it from sha hua to shenhua.

Sha Hua is the english-interpreted name for the english version of Shenmue chapter 1. Shenhua is, I believe, the right spelling.
It's just a bad translation.

They say names backwards in japan I think... not sure on that?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they do. I have shenmue II pal, and when Ryo says his name, the text says ryo hazuki, but he syas hazuki ryo. Same went for xuiying, she said her name was hong xuiying, but the text said otherwise.

In japan, they say first the surname and second the name.

But it BOTH dreamcast games EVERYONE speaks Japanese! The rule should be the same for both places.

No, the reason for the discrepencies in pronunciation is that all the Chinese people in the Shenmue games are given two translations, one in Japanese and one in Chinese. Same Chinese characters (or kanji), diffrent pronunciation.
First example, we have Shen Fa (Japanese) and Sha Hua (Chinese).
Second example, Kishou (Japanese) and Gui Zhan (Chinese).

The American Shenmue games will use the Chinese pronunciation for Chinese names. The Japanese Shenmue games will use the Japanese pronunciation for all names no matter what.
