Where have all the mothers gone?

Ryo lost his mother when he was a child. Gui Zhang doesn't have mother, either.
And neither has Joy. Shenhua lives with her farther.... Where are all the mothers?!

Besides, Xiuying and Ziming are orphans. Fangmei is an orphan, too. And Ren, Wong
and other Heavens' members don't have any family!!

Where the heck is an "ordinary" family in Shenmue!!!

I guess Yu Suzuki has issues with mothers.

Wong was supposed to have a family, but they changed him to an orphan. Joy was supposed to be his mom.

Disc 2 for DC has great info in the charachter profiles! Not sure if the xbox version has the omake files though.

Yeah, I suppose there is a slight possibility that Ryo and Shenhua are siblings or half-siblings. I doubt it, but I'm not going to completely rule it out.

But I'm 99.9% sure that Ryo's mother is really dead, and is not Niao Sun.

Yeah, almost everybody in Shenmue has either no parents, or just a father.

They don't say "Joy was supposed to be his mom" in the profile on Disc 2,
at least in Japanese. There must be some misinterpretation, I'm afraid.... :?

It actually says something like "Another character was originally going to be cast as Wong's mother. Can you guess who it is?" Most people just assumed Joy from that. Does it say anything like that in Japanese, Kiyuu?

Joy is 18 and Wong is 13...I don't think that works out somehow. Maybe he is (was going to be) Xiuying's son?

I guess that could be a possibility.
Or maybe it could possibly have been the woman from Lai Lai Eatery, as she's like "Hey, Wong!" when he runs through the restaurant in that chase QTE.

I guess Japanese version says the similar thing in the profile. According to Muecas,
Wong was originally going to be a son of Dou Jiang Dinar in Lucky Charm Qr.

Anyway, why Joy? She's too young to be a mother!!
