Whatever it turns out to be, I'm sure it'll be great, but could it possibly be Shenmue? Surely not.

My money is that it will be ICO

I'd agree if not for the comment that Bluepoint gave about this remake being bigger than SOTC. Ico is neither bigger in scope or popularity than the latter game IMO. My money actually would go for a remake of MGS1,
given it'll be the game's 20th anniversary later this year and Bluepoint having worked on the remaster of all the subsequent games of the series. Or the rumored remake of Demon's Souls, simply because of the strong signs pointing to it like ESRB rating the game again, Atlus shutting down the servers of the PS3 game and the recent announcement of DS remastered.

I would consider Ico to be bigger than SOTC. Maybe not in surface area, but it's a longer game with greater scope and given it began on the PS1 and had some dated elements, would be a bigger endeavor to remaster. I'm vastly in the minority here, but out of the 3 games in the trilogy I actually enjoyed SOTC the least. It was just "run to the next boss and fight it" with the only puzzles being how to beat the bosses. Ico involved actual mandatory exploration and puzzle solving, which is why I enjoyed it more. The Last Guardian had its issues from a control standpoint, but it brought back the same kind of exploration and puzzle solving that Ico had, which is why I really liked it.

I don't think it's Shenmue either, but I also don't think it's MGS related. MGS was already remastered once, for the Gamecube. The Gamecube version was my introduction to the series and I've bought every game since. Konami's actions during the late development of MGS5, along with their statements that they didn't feel console gaming had a future, followed by the garbage that was MGSurvive, just tells me that I don't think they're willing to fund a third-party studio to remaster one of their games.

The Demon's Souls suggestion has the most logical arguments to back it up, IMO.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Sega would re-release its own 16-bit library on current consoles. I can't wait till April 2017 to reacquaint myself.

They are truly the pioneers of the video game industry. Some would call such an unpredictable move "irrational", but SEGA's forward-thinking is truly unmatched and this experimentation will surely help expand the video game market in the future leading to their long term success.

While checking back some footage of the 70 Person Free Battle that I recorded I noticed that the game replaces the low-poly Ryo from the fight 1 frame early for the following cutscene. This made an interesting comparsion gif.

That sort of thing is incredibly common in Shenmue II, especially when sparring with Jianmin since cutscenes occur in the middle of fights. Another similar case in Shenmue I is when Ryo's jacket changes shape during the lunch break and end of work cutscenes in disc 3.

Yeah you can see this in a lot of places with various things happening. When they have to replace or reposition things without a large enough break in the scene or from game to cutscene it has to happen somehow.
I just found this one especially worthy to look at since the low-poly Ryo for the battle is a well known thing but it's hard to make out just how much blockier and less detailed he really is.

Even people that never played the game fall in love with the music. It speaks volumes of the series soundtrack quality. Apparently a couple even used this particular cover on their wedding.

If you did everything from December 3 to 17, and didn't spend your money on extras (phone calls, soda machines, Tomato Mart, games, move scrolls, etc.), how much Yen would you end up with, and what would that transfer to on your Shenmue 2 DC save file?

I'm thinking the most you could end up with what would be about 56,816円, which would translate to 1,894 HKD. The Manager always gives you 2,000円 on your Training Day, and I do not believe you can get any higher than 5,250円 (without glitching), 7,200円, 6,300円, and 9,000円 on your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th workdays respectively.

Here's what I got:

Just came across a very old tv show focused on videogames (and recently uploaded on Youtube) with a Shenmue segment on it. There's a small interview with Yu Suzuki and even a snippet of him doing martial arts choreography for the game! The show refers Yu as Game Guru for Sega Japan! :D Gold.

Great find, sand4fish! I suppose Yu Suzuki's comment about Americans was an allusion to the poor sales that Shenmue and the Dreamcast had seen in Japan. According to the video description, this episode aired in May of 2000, but even so I'm surprised at the amount of Shenmue II footage they had. I'd never heard of this show before now, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Tommy Tallarico on it.
