Do you fight Chai more than once

I just got finished with disc 2 and before I continue I wanted to know if you could fight Chai more than once since I heard if you beat Chai, Ryo in Shenmue II is alot stronger

Just keep playing. In Shenmue you cant make any mistakes besides turning the game off and playing Call of Duty.

That's not true. You don't get any kind of reward or advantage if you beat Chai at the arcade, besides a different cutscene after the fight and that you can go to Jimmy right away.

I don't know about Ryo but, from what I heard from a lot of people, if you beat Chai at Arcade at your very first party, Chai is way harder or even impossible to beat at Arcade if you replay the story.

Personally, I did not even know that beat Chai at Arcade was ever possible.

As I understand, it is not about beating him or not, it is about Ryo's moves proficiencies. In order to beat Chai you really need to train a lot to increase your stats, and that stats should be transferred to Shenmue II.. or something like that.

Actually, you don't need to train at all in order to beat Chai. Some time ago when I played through the game I only bought the Crawl Cyclone, didn't spend any time leveling the moves and went into the Chai fight without any concern if I win or lose. And funny enough I actually beat him without much hassle.

If you train your techniques Chai will be a piece of cake in both fights. I recommend to not do it. If you wanna train your moves to master you should do it in a second gameplay.

And as BlueMue said, you wont get stronger in second game. Even if you master all moves in Shenmue, you'll start Shenmue II with half experience in all moves.

While there's no real reward for beating Chai, I've always loved the dialogue you get with the residents of Dobuita if you do manage to defeat him. The lady running the hokuhoku lunches stand in particular has some very funny dialogue.

Haha. Talking to that lady after beating Chai was the first thing that came to my mind when reading this thread.
