Police Involvement

Replaying S1 got me thinking, Where are the damn police?? Did anyone even file a damn police report after Iwao was killed?

I think it would of been cool if day 1 the police visit you, or bring you in to ask questions. This eventually leads to nothing and Ryo being like fuck it, I'll do it myself. Maybe throw a crooked cop in the mix somewhere for Ryo to deal with...i dunno.

Are police reports a thing in japanese culture in the 80's?

It just happened in the three days between the murder of Iwao and when you start the game.

You would think they would want to talk to someone who was there, who was also attacked.

There is no good explanation for this but we assume that Ryo wants his personal revenge, being from a martial arts family and all.

Police corruption, massive criminal organisation, cliché, etc.

These are essentially the main ingredients to Suzuki's explanation.

If Yakuza were behind the murder it could be explained away that they bought off the police.

But the murderers were foreigners and Chinese... they should've been all over it.

Call the police from one of the telephones in the game and you have your answer.

One must assume the police took a report and recognized the death, but in that era even the police were probably not willing to get too involved with dangerous gang groups like that.

Policeman: Ok, I think we have all the info we need. Are you going to be ok? Do you need a counselor to talk to at all?
Ryo: I'm going to kill Lan Di.
Policeman: Ok then, Bye!

So i restarted just so I can call- Ryo just says " I don't want the police involved"

He has been out for days, Ine-san or Fuku-san didn't call? The newspaper reported on it, so the police just what ignored it?

At this point, Ryo wants to maim/kill Lan Di- if Lan Di was arrested (unlikely), he wouldn't be able to do that.

I get why Ryo isn't calling.....I don't get why the police are not badgering him, questioning him at the very least

This makes me wonder also if Mark filed some sort of police report after his brother got snuffed at the harbor...
