I found this weird, albeit unknown (at least to Western audiences) Shenmue-related thing while browsing through some Dreamcast Magazine Japan magazine scans, and thought you all might get a kick out of it:

It's from the #1999-11 issue of the magazine, covering this exclusive Tokyo Game Show '99 Spring demo of Shenmue made, featuring a "Shenmue Shop" and a virtual Dreamcast booth/panel displaying the game and Dreamcast within the demo. Kinda reminds me of Second Life in a way...

EDIT: Huh. Looks like there was already a few threads about the "virtual tour" demo already: viewtopic.php?t=21138

EDIT 2: Here, some more of the Virtual Tour thing from later 1999 Dorimaga issues:

i stumbled upon some screen shots of this demo (virtual exhibition) many years ago, but i could never find any further information about it. a translation of the article would be very interesting. A video of the demo would also be super interesting, but the chances of finding one now is probably very slim.

i also like the image showing the destructible boxes in the harbour.
thanks for submitting.

The whole magazine is interesting, never heard of Pilot Kids by Sega before.

Pilot Kids was actually developed by Psikyo; Sega only allowed them to develop the game on their Model 2 board:

But I digress.

The Shenmue Master site has a good collection of various screenshots (from magazines) of the demo, and some comparisons with how the actual TGS booth looked.

This is all amazing, I can't believe I'm only finding out about this almost 17 years later!
