Pop-in for the HD remakes

When the HD remakes of Shenmue 1 and 2 come out this year, will they finally get rid of the annoying character fade-in that constantly happens when you run too fast down a street?

This is the one aspect of Shenmue that hasn't aged well and I hope they fix it for the HD remakes.

There is no confirmation that Shenmue HD is being released at all, let alone this year.

The pop in I would assume is a hardware limitation, providing it isn't a straight port I'd imagine the NPC onscreen limit would be vastly increased.

Pop-in was the LOD trick(level of detail) of Shenmue (improved on Shenmue 2).
Even games like Horizon Zero Dawn on a PS4 Pro needs LOD because every machine has a limit.

Modern LOD decreases the number of polygons (and the texture's quality) instead of "pop-in" elements.

As jasonorme said, the limition of Dreamcast (16mb) or even Xbox(64mb) won't be a problem to a modern port of Shenmue, so they can simply remove that.

It'd be neat if they did what 343 did with Halo: C.E. Anniversary where players are able to switch between the original and remaster on the fly so those who wish to experience the original all over again (pop-in and all) are able to. They should definitely remove the pop-in for the remasters, though - that stuff just doesn't wash nowadays.

The problem with the pop-ins is that sometimes when you go to a NPC and they haven't loaded, it is very annoying as they still technically exist so there is an invisible wall

Nozomi was notorious for this. Then again, maybe it's just a reflection of Ryo's lack of interest in Nozomi's existence :P
