Hi there,

I decided to order a GDEmu once they're back in stock. Meanwhile, I bought an SD card reader for my Dreamcast's serial port and using DCSHELL, dumped all of my DC games on a flash card. Anyway, I just found out today while looking at some videos on YouTube that the PAL Shenmue I game got the undub treatment, which is great because I have both the PAL Shenmue I and II.

So ya, I really want to play this with Japanese audio once I get a GDEmu, but only thing is, the games I ripped myself are complete, nothing was cut from them unlike the common ISO dumps which were cut for 700MB or 900MB usage. So I was wondering if I could just download the patches somewhere instead of the full ISOs? I know patching ISOs is possible because I do it for PSP games, so what about DC ISOs?

someone would have to make a patch file specifically for you, which is probably asking a lot considering that you can just download sm1th or kogami releases very easily

But these original ISOs were once patched, I find it hard the believe that the people who worked on it no longer have the original patch.

that's not how it's done, the original discs were completely extracted and the filesystem was edited directly - then a completely new ISO was made

No one ever wrote a tool to patch the disc images. It was all done "manually".
The disc image was extracted and every necessary NPC and cutscene file has been edited one by one. Then a new disc image was built and that one was made public.

This is the standard process of dubbing or undubbing the game. The same has been done with What's Shenmue (I worked on it) and only after all that worked a patch was written to avoid legal issues with providing a full disc image.

I see. So how much was cut from the original discs to make them fit on 900MB CDs?

As far as I know nothing has been cut or downsampled from the 99min version.
Shenmue didn't push the limits of the GD-Rom like Shenmue II did.

I don't know man, I checked, 99 minutes CDs are actually 870MB, not even 900MB like I originally stated, so something had to be cut out:

You can't quite compare a CDI to a GDI. The latter is a raw dump that has a lot of overhead wich is simply not required for a CDI. You see that the 3 Shenmue discs are pretty much the same in size? When you extract them the actual file size of all the game contents differ greatly between the discs.

If you don't believe me about the cut content, at least believe Kogami.

factory GDROMS were padded - that's why all the ISOs are near max size

I see. Hope I can run these files with GDEmu without having to burn them the CDs first and then ripping them with DCSHELL.

Shenmue Undub Disc1 (GDI) compatible witch gdemu, it has been proposed for this version.

I run CDIs of my GDEMU all the time. No need to mess around with anything.
