Guilin

Is it me or does this part of the game feel completely out of place and unnecessary? I enjoyed Shenmue II (not as much as I did the first game) but on repeat a play through I usually stop playing after Ryo leaves Kawloon, that was a solid ending and it didn't need to be added to (in my opinion)

if they did release a remake, should they take this part of the game away? If I was making the game I would combine the two games and take away this part of it. So is it just me or does everyone dislike disk 4? also if i was making the game as one I would use the first games fighting mechanics and take away the wait feature.

It is you. I rarely see people that don't like Guilin. Although, if we got Shenmue III, II's ending wouldn't be a problem to anyone, I feel. It wasn't meant to be a decade plus long cliffhanger, so it feels out of context.

I do feel that the end of disc 3 would've been a good ending and the Guilin chapter was probably originally intended as the start of Shenmue III and Yu Suzuki decided to put it into Shenmue II for us. So we at least get to meet Shenhua.
But dislike? Hell no! The question should be "Does anyone dislike disc 4?"

Well, I dislike disk 4 and I'm sure there are others (maybe not here) they should have ended Shenmue II at disk 3 and then released disk 4 as an extended demo (or taster) for Shenmue 3. This is how I would rate the disks...

1. Shenmue Disk 1
2. Shenmue Disk 3
3. Shenmue II Disk 3
4. Shenmue Disk 2
5. Shenmue II Disk 2
6. Shenmue II Disk 1
7. Shenmue II Disk 4

The only difficult decision was Shenmue II Disks 1 and 2, the airing out thr books was awful but disk 2 did have some good parts whereas the first disk was just slow throughout.

Yep. Favourite part of the series for me. Since it's so different from the rest of S2, it feels like I am playing the beginning of Shenmue 3. Least that's what I tell myself.

So, umm yea. It's just you :P

Guilin really does have a lot of truly beautiful music. Literally every single piece can be listened to for hours.

I don't know why people feel like it's out of place. I always found it to be the perfect ending after the fast paced event heavy kowloon segment it felt great to just relax and breath in the atmosphere of guilin listening to the relaxing music and staring at the beautiful countryside around you.

I personally loved the Guilin section as well. Its the section of the game I most often watch clips of on You Tube and I remember being really hooked the first time I played it for the simple fact you finally meet this mysterious girl you've been dreaming about up until then.

Although now that I think about it the dramatic shift in tone does seem pretty funny, how Ryo is now calmly picking flowers in a pretty field and discussing how beautiful nature is when all but 10 minutes prior we were on a roof beating a morbidly obese man to death.

For me it's because the yellow head building section was so long and tense that guilin felt so right. It felt like the game was finally allowing you to relax with bright and vibrant settings allowing you to sit back and just observe and take all the time you wanted to answer shenhua's questions after putting you through so much action in dark and gritty settings.
