How do you get someone to try this game?

This is one of my favourite games. I know it isn't for everyone, and it requires patience. But how do you get someone from saying "oh that looks s***" from 30 seconds of gameplay to actually trying to play it?

Conveniently fire up the end part of disc 3 for either game to reel 'em in.

If they think it looks shit after 30 seconds then they'll probably be bored to death playing for 30 minutes. Everyone has different tastes and Shenmue isn't for everyone, I wouldn't recommend Shenmue to anyone that doesn't seem half interested.

Completely agree that it's not for everyone, but first impressions definitely aren't everything when it comes to video games. There have been plenty of games that I thought looked shit to begin with that I then ended up really enjoying after giving a proper go.

Of course, I'm not saying that'll be the case every time, but you probably shouldn't be so quick to write a game off.

Haha you're not actually the first person I've heard say that funnily enough.

the answer is: let girls play this game. in my personal history I found girls to love shenmue. they love to search in drawers holding stuff and feeding a kitten. my girlfriend is now a huge shenmue fan and another female friend loved it as well. they love the slow pace!

if a person sees the game and says it looks shit, don't even bother.

also if a person is hesitant, always start with shenmue 2 with analogue controllers on. shenmue 2 plays and has aged so much better, new people will be much more into it.
