Pretty much confirms that Shenmue II's fourth disc, Guilin, was the future pacing for the series or at least the next installment. That actually does have me pretty excited, as I loved the different pace of Guilin. Inward instead of outward, meaning less travelling and more exploration in the heartland. The different gameplay system that was introduced in the fourth disc was also welcome, I personally loved the conversations and unfolding of the story. To see more of this in an even more dramatic manner with actual options would be magnificent.

Bring it on Suzuki-san, the loyal will support it dozens of times over.

Although there is some news in this article, such as what Yama pointed out in regards to the gameplay style of Shenmue III, the fact of the matter is that it's not really news. It's a recycled headline that we've seen many times before. It's like hearing a different pop song but realizing, like all pop songs, it's just the same ol' thing. Just like Law Xiu said, just like Riku Rose said, just like Henry Spencer said, just like Ziming said, and just like many others are thinking but not saying. Hey, I'm usually super excited when I hear anything on Shenmue III, and I definitely am glad to know a little tidbit about the gameplay and I'm appreciative to Yama for that info, but I've been toyed with before by this headline and, as far as I'm concerned, it ain't news unless the headline says "SHENMUE III OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED."

I think the fact there was a sword fight planned or still planned is bigger news to be honest.

This is a great interview, regardless if it contains no real news.

Yeah, definitely. Would love to see it honestly, so much tease at the end of the second game.

Would love to see this... have actually been hoping we could control Ryo with a sword for at least one fight, as can be seen by this picture I drew years ago:

Saying it in 2003 is different then now. It was pretty much the Sega Dark age and it seems we're coming out of it, a few really good sonic games(Colors & 4), some great publishing deals(Platinum/Tri-Ace) and some in house games that are bulletproof(Valkyria/Yakuza)

The corporate culture, the type of game they're putting out, its all a pretty big change from 7 years ago, which is when Sammy stepped in, and the fact that its not just this interview but Gai and even statements from Sega proper.

I don't blame anyone for not believing but I can see why people are excited.

Well said, completely agree. Things are looking up, mainly in the profit area of things. Not even crossing my fingers anymore, but it's certainly more likely now than it was in 2003-2010.

"If after the [update] the game is still popular, I have the story beyond Shenmue II," said Suzuki. "So I can include that, as well. That's the plan."

I'm not a fan of this. I don't want the story to continue in this game. Getting just the script would be better and more immersive than getting the story in a small, Facebook-style game.
On the other hand, this would only happen if the game is still popular after releasing a Shenmue II-update which again assumes a bit.
