Never say never, Shenmue III still a possibility...

In response to CVG's Shenmue III feature, President of SEGA West's Mike Hayes replied to the article's feedback.

"While at present we have no plans for the franchise [on next-gen consoles], the response to CVG's question has certainly shown the Shenmue legacy ignites a lot of passion among fans. Never say never..."

Take it as a tease, rejoice when official. That is the basic rule of thumb at this point. Hayes' comment is indeed positive in comparison to other SEGA representatives as of late.

I'd like to get excited, and I am a little, but the statement just reeks of "Keep watching Sega.com"

I really, really wish that theyd give a yes or no answer. Hope is nice, but false hope is not.

Ummm...Mike Hayes IS THE CEO OF SEGA WEST (America & Europe). He is in charge of all western operations. His words are worth a little more than a CS rep's "keep watching sega.com for updates".

Plus, remember how it was said many a time recently that SEGA of Japan are looking more and more for input from the west, since the western markets are the ones making the most money?

This is all very exciting and I officially have new hope.

Least its not a full on NO!

My thinking is that they must be considering the idea semi-seriously. It looks like they are trying to slowly re-launch the name and get the brand "shenmue" known.

I take this with a sense of hope rather than expectation but we shall see. Good news though

Although it's always nice to hear about future Shenmue installments, I don't think any credible developer would ever right off a video game series. Especially one that's quite popular like Shenmue.

They are hardly going to say [i]'No, Shenmue will never be made.'[/b]

It's nothing more than a typical response from SEGA. But atleast it's something, I suppose.

Playing shenmue has had a impact on my life. It reminds me of myself in my world of the martial arts. This game gives hope.

I like his positive attitude and his ability to recognize the obvious.
What kind of decision making power he has is negligible when it comes to Sega of Japan decisions, but he can communicate to his peer's and superior's what he thinks is a good decision for his region(s). He is President of Sega West after all, so he has quite abit of power and sway in his hands.
I like the times we're in right now.
It seems like we have alot of positive movement for the series lately. Theirs alot of activity these days.
Comments like these only give us hope for the future.
They tease. But id rather be teased all my life then be flat out told no.
