The original game sold about 1 million copies and that was 15 years ago, many of the people who played it back then have probably stopped playing games altogether now.
That may be true but it was also for a console that reportedly sold 10-15 million units total. The PS4 alone has already sold that many units and has many good years ahead. In addition, most games that sell 1 million copies would be overwhelmingly successful with a sequel greenlit immediately. Forget Shenmue III for a minute, an HD re-release that sold a few hundred thousand copies/downloads would be very profitable.

There have been people who have "called it" on this forum every year, for the last 14 years.

Well, if the doman registrations are worth anything, then I'll suggest something that I haven't seen many places:
It's not going to be "Shenmue I&II HD with Shenmue III following". It's going to be the entire story on one disc. The entire thing is going to be rebooted. If not on one disc, it will still be an entire reboot, but sold in episodes. One of those things. I say that because Sega has not gone out and bought up Shenmue2.com, Shenmue3.com, etc. Those are still owned by other people.
Unless Shenmue3.com might be able to say something to the contrary..have you had any offers?

But I already named that cat! And took Fuku-san's money! And caught leaves!
But seriously, I would buy a reboot.

I've been saying a full reboot and the one story one one huge disc for years, but after a decade of being let down, I just can't believe someone saying, "here you go. All your Shenmue dreams on one disc".

The french journalist Maxime Chao keeps on telling Shenmue 3 will be announced (his twitter) and with Quantic Dream even after they denied it.
He says to wait until the end of Sony s conference to start insulting him.

I guess Sega don't really need the 2 and 3 domains though, everything could be together on the one website even if we went up to Shenmue 8. Was there a Shenmue 2 website back in the day?

He said it loudly in a new video this morning too.
But I just learned that the site has terrible reputation anyway.

Your last few comments have been negative and antagonistic. Some members of the community are more optimistic for this year than others but we all love the series so let's talk about our predictions and general thoughts about E3 in a positive manner. If you don't like to read discussion about unconfirmed bits of rumor, there are other threads on this website that discuss other aspects of Shenmue.
