If this game is Suzuki's ultimate vision of what Shenmue is in his mind, there is no way the story will be concluded in this game. I don't imagine it will end on a huge cliffhanger like 2. But the story as he envisioned it will not be complete. He's even said years ago that even if he were to cram the rest of the story, it'd still be at least 2 more games. Back then it seemed impossible. But now the sky is the limit really

I would honestly like to think at this point that he can get enough funding to realize the rest of his vision for the series. I would hate to see Shenmue 3 be the last. If Yu believes he won't see another chance after this, he will probably try tying the rest of the chapters up in one title, which would be the biggest tragedy in gaming, IMO.

I don't think Bailu village is the end of the story, and that's what's planned for Shenmue 3, isn't it? unless every scene of project berkley video takes place there... Shenmue 1 and 2 were chapters 1-4 of around 16, I expect 3 to be 3-4 more chapters. If not... I will think a lot of content was cut

My guess is the fight with Lan Di will be the conclusion at least, since that's what a lot of fans have been waiting for. But the continuation of the story beyond that (Ryo finding a sense of purpose afterwards as Yu talked about at GDC 2014) would be in a Shenmue IV if III is successful enough.

And hopefully Shenmue V will be about Ren trying to get Ryo to lighten up, get drunk, and finally get laid.

It will take a whole goddamn game with 5 chapters to do that one.

This is a fear I have, what if this game does not end the story and the game is not successful enough to guarantee Shenmue IV and we are stuck again, this time forever.

I doubt this won't make enough of a return to guarantee a Shenmue IV in a similar vein of Shenmue IIIs final product, whatever that final product that may look like. I feel like Shenmue just needed another chance (one that wasn't triple A)
