Let's Start Campaigning and Stop Complaining!

Postby Little Boy Baka » Mon Jan 05, 2004 4:17 pm

Ugh. Sorry about the thread title. I really couldn't resist :P

It doesn't matter if I get flamed away, or people think I'm stupid, as long as I get opinions from everyone.
Now, as a lurker from hell, I've been looking at the Shenmue III forum without posting for a long time. What has come across my attention are the campaign ideas. Now, this has gotten my enthusiasm meter to boiling hot (maximum cheesyness) and I thought that mabye I should come out of my shell a bit, stop being scared of the members here, and gather some ideas for campaigns for Shenmue III. Let's start it off:

1. Petition
Tried and tested, let's leave it at that.

2. Massive snail mail campaign
I believe Quadriflax has already inspired this. Teaming up with other communities and sending mail is a great idea.

3. LBB's Super Duper Crazy Hyper Idea #1
To show our support, those who are willing could do "One Reason Why I Love Shenmue." This could be a website where users post one reason why they love Shenmue, in the form of videos, photos, songs, etc. I don't know if this would work

I'll be thinking of more ideas.
Or mabye the recent announcement takes away any need for campaigning?

Many thanks,
LBB.

EDIT: Corrections.

We need to campaign to show how much we need this game because if we dont tell people what we want we aint ever gonna get it.

I might send a letter to the Prime Minister

I'd participate in wacky ideas if its gonna help shenmue 3 get developed. Only problem is getting ppl to do the same. Having 2 ppl make a protest outside Sega hq wont do squat, get my point (that was a stupid example btw). They'd probably throw there chopsticks at us or something. However if all shenmue fans could gather to do something, i.e not a protest but something which could show how much shenmue means to us and how we will support them, i'm sure sega wont just forget about it which is what they would do if the fans let this die down. The petition only did so much, and I bet many ppl put there names down many times and i'm sure sega knew that but i still think that it probably did have an effect on them.

Nice topic, What we really need is a Flash Presentation or something similar to be used around the web. Just a short one maybe with a dojo url on it etc. This should generate publicity on the internet side of things.

I have bought a web space called shenmail.org, but what with Christmas and everything I haven't had time to sort anything out. But I want to point out that Quadriflax is not in favour of emailing campaigns, and neither am I.

What I want to promote is a snail-mail blitz, something they can't deal with just by clicking a mouse.

If someone can send me good examples of Shenmue artwork, designs, fonts etc that I can make full use of, I would be grateful. I'm now aiming at the end of January to get something up and running.

What kind of designs are you looking for? Like letter heads? I'm good at making those :)

But like Silas said, they can easily delete a few thousand emails with just a click of a button, but its not like they can click a mouse button and a load of snail-mail dissapear.

Ah, sorry. I must have been mistaken. Silas, I'll have a look round (and get permission) for anything you may find useful. I agree, snail mail is more effective.

EDIT: BTW, could you tell us what you're planning to do exactly? And how many images, fonts, etc. do you need?

EDIT 2: Thanks Hei Long. I would actually consider taking this idea seriously, but then there's the matter of getting website designers, space, etc. Also, if Silas is already behind a campaign, I don't know if there'll be any point of having another one beside it?

Correct. Email will do NOTHING but tie up Sega's networks with worthless emails. They're too easy to ignore and delete. Sending them something in the mail forces them to actually DO something with said items.

Look at it this way: how many spams do you get a day? Yeah, we all can, and many of us do, get a lot of emails. It's not difficult. And it's not difficult to filter and delete them either. Many of us also get a lot of junk mail in the mail box, but a) a lot less, and b) even if you throw it out, you still have to look at it to know it's not junk (or even if you do know it's junk... how many times have you turned things over and read them on the way to the trash?)

Bottom line is we need to do some massive snail mail campaign, possibly in multiple waves. We need organization and professionalism. NO threats, NO horrible grammar. I've offered to help Silas with writing up guidelines. And yes, we're probably going to end up suggesting HANDWRITTEN letters and/or artwork. It's more personal. There are exceptions for those who have horrible handwritting, created artwork on the computer, etc etc. Basically, the more time you take, the more personal it is, the more meaning it will have. There won't be any templates for you to print out as all letters should be personalized (seeing a trend?) Tips will be offered, general guidelines for things to say, mailing addresses, etc etc.

Don't think Silas and/or myself will be doing all the work for you. In fact, it's the opposite way around. We'll be relying on YOU to spread the word, on YOU to create your art and letters, and YOU to follow through. If we can get word about this in magazines and on other game sites it stands a much better chance of succeeding. But even if only a few hundred people from here do this, getting 100+ capsules, or whatever we finally agree upon, over a 2-3 day span is something that will get someone's attention.

Silas, if you want my help in anything feel free to email or PM me.
