You say that as if Shenmue's concept art hasn't been like that from the start.

I like that drawing with Shenhua holding Ryo's hand, it looks like he got hurt.
Added Ryo probably tripped over it may be why he is limbing in that sketch art.

I actually love Shenmue's concept art. It's got this refreshing watercolor painting style mixed with classic "coming of age" anime aesthetics. I hope if that is really what they're going for they do it justice.

It's nice to finally have an official date for a media blowout, was getting tired of all the derailed hype trains...

Wish we can still access the website cache though, I need bigger versions of those character artworks.

This is the kind of update I expected after the last one. Looking forward to it. Maybe we'll get a updated Ryo model in the movie clips? With Shenmue being at gamescom does this now rule out PSX?

Not necessarily. It depends a lot on what kind of showing is at Gamescom. If it's a pretty extensive blowout, skipping PSX would be acceptable.

That would be amazing if they have a lot of materials ready to show and the demo was ready to download. I wish Gamescom was next week. The suspense is killing me.

On the subject of launching a "Shenmue III @ Gamescom" thread on the board - would everybody prefer it now(ish), or when further details about when/where the game is showing come to light?

The original E3 thread generated a lot of discussion and was a fun read leading up to the event. I'd say go ahead and make it.

I would say, go on, although we don't have that many precise information, but enough in my opinion to keep us busy for some time.
What about making the first post dynamic, same style as some fancy threads on NeoGAF?
