PayPal backers can't get the additional in-game content ?

Pretty simple:
-PS4 for console nostalgia
-PC for eternal archiving + modding

I’m considering buying the PC version at launch. I mean…we gotta buy something at launch, amirite?

I'd rather have my codes for scrolls etc work with the PC version for eternal archiving. But if Sony release a Limited Edition Shenmue PS4 then I'll show my support for them by buying that. There's a few PS4 games I'd like to play one day (mostly PS3 remasters like TLOU and Journey, hoping Shadow of the Colossus and Ico are released for PS4 when Last Guardian comes out, and also hope they released Yakuza collection for it as well).

The PC is the better version but some things disturbs me : the OS compatibility in the future decade, the stability of Windows, the fact that a console is easier to transport (could be important in my personal case), the unpredictable side of your pc power and perhaps a bit of console fetishism I admit.

Another point is that the Sony developers are being said to help YSnet on a periodic basis (correct me if I'm wrong) so it appears that Shenmue III will be developed on PS4 devkits and Shibuya will take charge of the PC port. So the superiority of the PC version is not going to be that far, about the vanilla version at least.

I think the PC community is pretty good at making older games work with newer OSes; just the other day I was looking to play the '97 Blade Runner game and had seen that someone had patched it to work with Windows 7. Sites like GOG.com are really good at getting older games running on newer OSes, too.

I think consoles have lost a lot of their advantages over PC, especially the "plug-n-play" aspect. Just came out today that the new Assassin's Creed game will have a 40 GB Day One patch, so the discs are essentially worthless. The latest Tony Hawk's game was unplayable without a Day One patch as well. Of course, these are extreme examples, but I still can't help shake the feeling that consoles have morphed from user-friendly devices to sub-bar PC replacements (Jim Sterling did a good video on this).

I'm still playing games on my pc that are over 20 years old so I'm not really worried about the compability issues. If it really is a pain in the ass to get working in 20 years time I'll just emulate it on a ps4 emulator I guess lol

I tweeted Gio Corsi and Cedric about having a Shenmue themed PS4 for the PayPal. They could probably charge $400/$500 for it and by the time they ship them in 2017/18 production costs will have come down so more could go towards Shenmue III development.

Makes sense. The Yakuza collection + Team Ico games on PS4 would be perfect; only a handful of titles remains until there‘s virtually no reason to purchase a PS3 anymore.

Also, Blade Runner ’97 freakin’ owns.
Sadly, the line between PC and consoles has become blurred to a fault. Once you remove exclusivity (and affordable price point), consoles become nothing more than gimped PCs. It’s almost enough to make me long for the 90’s when there was a clear, complementary distinction between gaming platforms.

@Yokosuka:
Def. get both versions if you can.
PS4 for nostalgia; PC version so that you can play it in 20 years. As the others have said, don’t worry about OS support.

It would have been better to leave some rewards Kickstarter exclusives, but balance them out with PayPal exclusives. Have a PayPal physical version in a simple alternative colour casing. Look at Data Discs Shenmue Soundtrack. Same product, but 3 different editions which only really differ in colour. If there was a PayPal physical, which differs from the Kickstarter or general release physical, just colour only, then I would have dropped another $60 at least.

With a month between the Kickstarter and PayPal, I hate to criticize, but I have been disappointed from an incentive standpoint. I know it should be about giving money to Shenmue development primarily, but I twouldnt have been hard to come up with a few unique cothing rewards for PayPal, or in game tokens or items? Get together with the company behind the jacket and statue and have a new product to give as a reward. Is this a lack of innovation? I mean from what I have seen, so far this PayPal has been a failure yes? More like a fire sale, getting rid of anything that's left from the Kickstarter. Even the watch and jacket are now at a "reduced price"

I adore Shenmue of course, and forever thankful for everything these past 3 months have brought us. But I wish I was involved some way, working with Awesome Japan or Ali. If i had the resources, id hop on a plane in the morning and go to wherever they all are, bang the shit outta the door until i get in and see the overall plan for the remainder of the Paypal. Just ipen lines of communication, have meetings 24/7, and get more money coming in. Promote it as much as possibly could daily, scream it down the street. This could, and can still be better. I have faith there will be some new things to come over the course of October, November and December. But there is money out there to still be had here, and I think they have just thrown up the PayPal and hope for the best.

There's got to be things they can make for cheap.

Shenmue calendars?

Posters?

Badges?

Anything they sell could be sold for more with Suzuki's signature on it.

Dreamcast style cases would be amazing as well, like those mockups someone posted here and on NeoGAF during the KickStarter.

Competition to be Voice Actors? They're gonna be hurting for voice acting budget, and if there's a few fans who have the chops and are willing to do it for free, everybody wins.

Chance to name Technique Scrolls for $750?

Be a Kung Fu Master in the game for $4000?

$1000 to Skype with Yu Suzuki for an hour?

Nozomi dakimakaru?

Me and LanDC have already discussed offering our voices for free when we meet in Japan next year, as well as anyone else willing. For free, not a cent paid or spent on us. I will fly anywhere in the world and do whatever necessary on my own dime if it will help save any sorts of money. Ots got absolutely nothing to do with being famous, don't even have my name in the credits. I'm there anyways as a special backer. Its just simply and wholeheartedly on the basis of helping save them money. I will sign whatever needs to be signed, non waiver or whatever.

I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I'd do it, but I'm awfully monotone. I mean, if they want an NPC who sounds like something out of the US dub of Shenmue I for old time's sake, yeah, I can do that :P

How about a competition for a PayPal backer exclusive case? I liked Reprise's Dreamcast-style cases here:

There's a lot that can be done to engage the community!

Knowing current Yu Suzuki he's liable to actually let you maniacs get your voice into the game. Thank God there'll be a Japanese dub.
