What if it was Sega's plan all along to delay it this long just to build Shenmue's fanbase XD

I know, the plugin is near impossible to find. But old versions of Softimage are just as hard to obtain.

The licensing for the trademarks have expired, this is mainly an issue for Japan where they had Coke branding, etc and also the huge cost to overhaul the complete game has put a stop to any HD Shenmue, they looked at it and decided against it. The guy who said Shenmue was going to be the next HD release a while back has left the company

I'd love to see a Shenmue HD, but it just isn't going to happen from Sega's side

If they had Coke branding in Japan they can simply use the brands from the US Shenmue version. How are you so sure that they looked at it and decided against it?

Ben Harborne is an AXE man now.

Work on AXE - a cool brand that gives guys the edge in playing the mating game. Making them feel, look and smell great.

no it's not, it will take less than 20 mins to just change the textures from official to the ones used in the western version
and also the huge cost to overhaul the complete game has put a stop to any HD Shenmue

overhaul? you do realise all they do is make it output in 720p and add some features like widescreen and camera controls adapted to the dual analogue pads, no work is actually done on the game itself

Ben Harborne didn't say Shenmue was going to be the next anything, but it's kinda funny to hear he's no longer with the company because I was just joking with someone the other day about why he still had a job.

It doesn't matter what it entails, it isn't going to happen

I know for certain as I work with a lot of ex-Sega staff, some of who left in the past 6 months, and some who had the final say on pitched games and digital content. Sega aren't willing to gamble anymore, they've been reducing their staff and are looking at titles they believe will be winners for them

Also, Shenmue has been the most asked for game internally and externally, followed by Skies of Arcadia

for someone who works with a lot of ex-staff you sure got a lot of the details wrong, just saying...

I would be willing to believe they cancelled it but not for any of the reasons you cited, also because SEGA said they would focus a lot more on digital titles and shenmue being the most requested of all dreamcast digital titles plus the low cost of releasing it I doubt sega would avoid it unless if they believe it's a bad omen or something :dunno:

If it's the most asked for game internally as well as externally, why wouldnt they see potential profit? Do they think the digital released that are currently out have more potential? It's not like they remakining the game from the ground up. Voice acting, art design, and all that is already done and paid for with that hefty 70 mil. price tag. I wouldn't think it would be that expensive to make a few changes.

south carmain, I don't care if you believe me or not, all I'm doing is relaying the info I was given when I asked one of the people I work with, I also don't care if you don't believe I work with ex-Sega staff

At the end of the day I work for Xbox, who happen to have hired a lot of people who left Sega

I want to play Shenmue HD as much as anyone, but unfotunately it's not going to happen
