If you remove European subtitles, I see a lot of donors leaving the kickstarter. Bad idea considering the fanbase in Europe is huge.

You nailed it! If you want S3 in German, Spanish, Latvian, Xhosa, Tibetan or whatever, do it yourself. :D We've got native speakers from all over the world here at the Dojo.

Hell, I'd give my German translation of S3 to Ys Net for free. And I'd do a better German translation than FF7 got. ;-)

I remember having to mod my Playstation 1 and import the US version after cursing at the German translation's spelling and grammar for so many times. It almost unintelligable.

Drop the dub too.

Too much money to hire two sets of VAs. It should all be in its native language. It should all go to game development.

And while we're at it, drop the English subtitles too.

Too much of a waste. It should all go to game development. We'll all have to buy our own Japanese translation books or software to trek through it.

Nah, let's get rid of the Japanese language option instead.

Get rid of all text and VAs.

Too much money. It should all go to game development.

Let's get rid of language all together. Why bother getting people to understand the story when money can go in to other things.

I remember my brother watching me play Shenmue a couple of times back in the day, he liked what he saw but he never ever intended to play it since he don't know even a word of english...

I've meet many people during all this years, and I've tried to introduce them in to the world of Shenmue, most liked the game... any played it, the reason was " it does not have even subtitles in spanish" or "I won't pay for a game that I can't comprehend..."

Let's agree on French translation only, since a lot of people over there passed on the game for not being in French. Drop Japanese and English. I read French too. Good reason to brush it up again. ;)

So basically whatever suits your needs, keep.

I've asked Ys about that on Kickstarter just now and suggested that they might do a poll about it among the backers. I do see the point of a lot of people on the forum that there is still a huge (potential) audience in those countries who don't read English.

On the other hand I think it is really worth thinking about dropping the smaller languages, especially if those 400,000$ should be separating us from making another stretch goal after the Kickstarter is finished.

They could do it as a poll. Now, while I personally would vote against those languages and in favor of putting the money into something which actually enhances the game itself, i can understand why others would like the game to have German, Spanish or whatever subtitles.

So if the majority of fans want the subtitles to stay, they would keep it and if the majority wants them to use the money on other stuff, they would kick out the smaller languages. That's what polls are for. :)

Not literally. As in take your opinion on dropping the languages seriously.

But by all means go ahead and suggest it. Tell them to give up valuable markets and damage the success of their game for an extra stretchgoal.
