The Loading Screens - Kept or Removed?

(Chapter 7 and beyond)

The memorable amount of loading screens in SM1-2 were simply a technical limitation of DC. There isn't any good reason to prefer blackouts to a nice landmark overlay.

Use them at important moments, such as after cut scenes, and when you sleep/wake. They were good for a sense of time and place and I'd probably miss them if they weren't there... But I don't need one everytime I go through the wrong door :D

I know I'm gonna get wrapped in the mouth for this but.. what if they used Sonic Adventure-type glowie balls at the start of the game?

You could touch the glow ball and it would say "Welcome to Bailu Village!"

There would be a train in Bailu Village and it would say "The train heading for Choubu Village will be departing soon."

For the announcement of Baisha, Yu Suzuki would come on the screen and say "Here's what I really spent your money on bitches!!!.. BAISHA BABY!!!!"

keep them in some instances like entering new region and inside large buildings, but for much less time than before

You don't need the actual scene loading in order to show a loading screen. It can be shown as a short introduction to a new location or a cutscene even if no data loading is required. In other words - it's all about artdesign, not technical a issue.

The way I sees it.... the last 15 years have jus' been one long-ass loading screen for Bailu Village.

Loading screen when you're going from a village to another would be great. But when you're entering a house or a shop, that shouldn't be necessary. Then again, who knows how they are going to handle it. We'll have to wait.

But music change is.

Skyrim needed loading for little interiors by the way.

it would be a shame to lose the individual music for each interior location. i suppose if a door opening animation is involved the exterior music could fade out as you are opening the door, and then the new interior music fades in. They could lengthen the door opening animation for this purpose, otherwise the transition would be too abrupt.

They could do a thing like GTA V does which is they have the names of streets and cars appear in the bottom corner of the screen once you enter them. Or have it load into the level like Heavy Rain did. Just as long as they aren't bad load times than it's fine with me. Whatever is easier to implement for the developers.

Instead of just dull black screen, they could, for example, when you enter a shop add very short animation with all information, similar to day/night transition. if necessary player could skip them.

You know, I love my traditional loading screens. I loved then in the recent port of the Resident Evil Remake (or the REmake), and I loved them in the old Resident Evil and Shenmue games, but when I picked up the HD port of Resident Evil 0 the loading screens began to grind on me. Not very hard, but enough to cause an annoyance. At this point I'm unsure if I'd want loading screens in Shenmue 3, but whatever we get I'm sure I'll love.

I'd quite like them for 2 reasons: 1) for nostalgia and 2) because I have a terrible memory. Seeing the place names, date and time was always useful because it reminded me of where and when it was. How many location names do you honestly think you'd remember if you weren't shown them all the time?

I think they could be modernised, like many other people have pointed out. Either show them for less time or change the look of them. Also only showing them at certain times like when you first enter an area after a prolonged point of time, not after entering then exiting a shop within 2 minues

I read in his last interview (JVMag special Dreamcast) that Yu wanted to make able the fights beyond the current fight zone and introduce the bicycle in Shenmue. He said that in one sentence. The Dreamcast loading screens looked like a real downside for him as a game designer.
