Since his reveal, it seems Ys net are really pushing Mr Muscles in Shenmue 3. He was solely featured in a kickstarter update video and we now see him battling Ryo twice on two separate occasions in the latest Shenmue 3 trailer.

Do you think he works for Lan Di? I'm guessing he is ChiYou, but he works for this charming lady instead.

What do you guys think?

Well, he wears a lot of red.

From the Shenmue Wiki:
"As a leader of the Chi You Men [Niao Sun] is said to be in charge of the south, in accordance with the astrological direction of her respective heavenly beast, the red phoenix."

I still have the feeling that he's not a really bad guy. I don't know but he just doesn't look evil enough to me.
Sure Dou Niu had some goofy elements aswell but was all around more sinister looking. And by looking I literaly mean the look on his face. There's just something different about this guy that gives him a... nicer appeal.

I'm under the impression that he's sorta bullying Ryo at first but then changes. Not necessarily a friend but sort of like a rival that constantly wants to match with Ryo.

Basically as Huber (and the rest from Easy Allies) would say : an uneasy alliance. For some reason I also think that this could be right. His clothing style doesn't really feel like he would be a key figure within the Chi You Men either. Or maybe he starts out as a rival and helps out later? I'm also curious how his design will look once they have added facial movements.

Also we now get a much better look at his belt buckle, compared to the Kickstarter Update. I had wondered if it was supposed to be an image of a pheonix (hence maybe a clue to a link to Niao Sun), but from the latest images it looks more like a flying crane or similar.

Niao Sun's underling, I'd wager. The description of Niao Sun being merciless and taking pleasure from committing cruel actions makes me think she'll kill him or Chai (or both) if they work for her and they fail the tasks she's set for them.

I was thinking the same thing. I still don't think he looks like an unwavering villain. There's a softness or an air of buffoonery in his design. I can see him being like Goro.

I think of Niao Sun like the "political influence/black widow" type of character, but that of course at some time will be revealed that she also kicks ass. I think she'll try to persuade Ryo seducing, manipulating or blackmailing him.

Maybe the guy is just another local mafia group like the yellowheads/mad angels were.

That's why I called him a mercenary. That's the kind of extra oppression I dreamt for Shenmue I and I missed in Shenmue II.

Really excited to play this story chapter.
