#ShenmueSaved

We finally did it!

I will be buying this day one the wait is killing me but at least it's releasing this year. Will probably no longer play the Dreamcast version after that.

it will be released by the end of 2018. Which means Shenmue 3 could be pushed back to 2019..?!

I can't believe it yet! I'm fucking happy!

How odd they don't release it for switch... Maybe they release it for xbox because later they will launch Shenmue 3 for it too and not for switch? Temporal exclusive?

This is fantastic news. We did it guys, we not only saved the Shenmue series. We enhanced it!
I thought the only thing that would happen would be a digital download port or something, just like they did with Sonic Adventure. I wasn't expecting them to release a physical bundle with the choice of Japanese or English voices! I wonder how they did that? Hopefully this will give Yu Suzuki more determination to do the same with Shenmue III.

Like others I want this to be released a few months before Shenmue 3, say mid September? If it's out late 2018 then I can see Shenmue 3 being delayed again. Is it accurate that this is coming at the end of 2018?

So glad this is happening though.

I don't mind Shenmue III getting pushed back if it means we get these.
I think these re-releases are vital to the success of Shenmue 3 and getting a Shenmue 4.

Is it just me or are some of the textures different?. The floor under the broken sign, and the dojo door.

Bit optimistic...

King John Blaze wrote: Just woke up to the news today with a very meh reaction. This was the chance to bring in news fans of the game with a remake, no a re-release. Wouldn't have cost a significant amount just to significantly update the graphics of the game. Day one purchase for me but can't help but feel this is a massive opportunity missed.

Yeah man, because remaking games from scratch is so, so, soooo easy. Just wack it in the ol' remake machine and out the other end comes a perfect remade game from all new assets. Just like magic.

And being serious, the games don't need to be remade. They're already perfect.

Personally I was fine with Shenmue3 being delayed to 2019 even before they announced the HD remasters.
Quality work takes time.

Just something that I am unsure :
Is there a physical version, planed for PC ?
Or is it only digital for this one ?

PC gamer posted

"Sega said. "The re-release will stay true to the originals with modernized features including fully scalable screen resolution, choice of modern or classic control schemes, PC graphics options, an updated user interface and the option to enjoy either the original Japanese or English voiceovers."

"One big question is how the old graphics will be upgraded for the PC release: What the games will scale to, how (or if) the textures have been upgraded, and what PC-specific options will be supported. We're hoping to hear answers soon, and hopeful it won't end up like Chrono Trigger, which launched with an ugly pixel smoothing filter in place that left many fans unhappy and was ultimately patched out."

Looks like it's just Steam for PC, which I'm happy with.

What would be nice for PC collectors is if they came out with a trilogy pack once III comes out and that got a physical edition for PC and PS4. But I guess Deep Silver is the publisher for III now? Maybe they could work out a deal with Sega, who knows.

It's so weird to think... I think it was January 1999 or so that I first saw Shenmue on the front cover of a magazine. I was 10 years old back then, 11 when I got to play What's Shenmue at EPCOT, and 12 when I finally played the full game in December 2000. I just turned 30 a week ago, and I'm still excited to go on the journey all over again :)

The perseverance of the Shenmue fanbase is something that should be in the history books.
