What are you most looking forward to?

Aside from collecting all the trophies/achievements on both PS4 and Steam, I've preordered a copy for my sister and nephew who love karate, martial arts films and the latest video games. Now that Shenmue 1 & 2 are finally coming to modern consoles, I'm excited for them to experience all the great moments in these two games for the first time.

What about you guys?

Trying out the new control scheme.

I get along fine with the classic controls, but I'm interested in seeing what they've done.

I could say it's because it's the definitive Shenmue experience, and all that jazz, but I've played both games (particularly the first) so many times, to the point where they're branded onto my memory, the changes being brought about by the remaster will be merely cosmetic by comparison.

What I'm most looking forward to is other people being able to experience the games for the first time, and how they will be received almost twenty years later. I'm expecting the same polarisation from all those years ago, if somewhat more amplified due to how used to modern games people are, and it's going to be very interesting viewing it from an outside perspective.

This will be my real first playthrough of both games. I remember playing Shenmue 2 with a friend on his Dreamcast
and all we did was playing darts for hours and hours and hours. (We were like 13 or 14 years old at that time)
Everytime we played Shenmue 2 we did nothing else. We didnt even know what happened in Shenmue 1.

Years later i played both games and finished them but i kinda just followed the story as straight as possible.
So this time i will probably use a guide from Gamefaq or whatever to see everything
and i will do my best to get 100% in both games on my PS4.

Showing my friends the game for the first time. I have 3 different friends who I've raved to about the game for years, but they've never played it. When it comes out I may have a party to show them all the game and get them hyped so they can buy it.

I'm happy to know I'll be able to show the game to my kids in optimal conditions and hopefully, they'll understand why daddy is so obsessed with that game and why we constantly listen to Shenmue OST at home. O:)

Playing the first game with Japanese audio and modern controls on my laptop with a 360 controller.

Checking out all the new menus and stuff, then the new control scheme and then messing around to see if the good old glitches still work. Don't know why I am so anxious to get to those but I looked forward to the point when I can try them out again, ever since I knew about them and the mere thought of a rerelease crossed my mind.

same.

playing shenmue 1 in japanese, which ive never done.. should be awesome :) - its strange because you think you wouldn't like it but listing to the expressive japanese voices + reading the text is quite fun.

also as long as updated controls dont make ryo feel like hes floating (a bit like witcher 3), they will be a big bonus.

like 99% of people here, i wore out my shenmue dreamcast discs lol, thats why i decided to take a break and purposely not play them for a few years.. the years kept rolling by and now its been 10 years since playing s1/2

the plan was to recapture some of that excitement i had when i first played them. so these re-releases ahead of s3 are great timing for me.

I'm really looking forward to the fact that it's no longer going to be a chore to play the games. Instead of having to pull my Dreamcast out from storage or tweak emulator settings, I can just fire the game up on my PS4 or PC and jump right in hassle free.

Trying the Shenmue 2 English dub for the first time. Gong from English to Japanese on Dreamcast was jarring.

Playing with the original japanese audio for the first time.
And now that with modern systems it is way easier and more accessible, I would also like to take a lot of photos/screenshots along the way ;-)

Japanese audio, and Shenmue 2 since I've only played that one a handful of times.

my first runs of shenmue (especially shenmue 1) were a shared experienced with some friends and my brother. those friends are all apart nowadays, some of them I haven't spoke to in 10+ years. I'd love to be able to play it again with my brother, now we're both adults and to be able to share something that means so much to us would be amazing
