Shenmue HD in magazines

(Shenmue I & II Re-Release Discussion)

Shenmue HD in magazines

Postby Let's Get Sweaty » Mon Apr 30, 2018 1:03 pm

It seems the gaming magazines currently on shelves went to print before news of the announcement could be added, but if and when you see it mentioned in any publications, let us know here.

Even if you can't provide a scan or anything, just give us all a heads-up on what's out there. :)

Thanks to the previous owner of my new home receiving Game Informer, I now receive Game Informer. The current issue was in my hands just a day or two after the announcement so clearly the re-release would have missed the print deadlines. Interestingly, there is an article on Shenmue III in the magazine. It's not very interesting and contains no new information or insights but I thought it was a strange coincidence. I expect at least some mention of the re-release in the next magazine.

Haha, so previous owner is paying still / forgot to cancel :D? I recently took out those Spring £5 for 5 issues of different magazines, got Official Playstation, Edge, Games TM, and Retro Gamer. Will let you know as soon as one of the next issues arrive :)

Maybe it was kindness, more likely it was laziness. It's a free magazine subscription that comes with a year paid into Gamestop's reward program. He may not have even cared about the magazine, he may have simply wanted the discounts and the magazine came with it. He'd likely just need to update his address with Gamestop but clearly has not done so. It's usually worth scanning through quickly, not much more than that.

Not the biggest article that I was expecting, but there's a smallish blurb in the latest issue of the Official Playstation UK Magazine -

I don't see any reason why. It's only an announcement, and D3T have been themselves very stoic about. A 1/2 page is easily satisfying, thanks for the scan.

Ahh I guess so, the Tomb Raider announcement got pretty favoured anyways, double sided poster, 4 coasters, front cover and an 8 page article! It's to be expected though :D

No worries! Will keep an eye out for more over the coming month!

It's so good to see Shenmue in modern day print again. That one definitely hit me looking at it.

Tbh, that article was more than I expected. Considering Sega and the devs have said virtually nothing about the game so far, I think them giving the announcement a full page of its own rather than a little blurb saying "Shenmue HD collection has been announced" is quite nice.

Whilst having a more thorough look through the Official Playstation UK magazine, I noticed a second article, mainly more about Shenmue 3 though.

Well, I don't begrudge the tone of the article, but I think Yu Suzuki is still thinking in terms of innovative gameplay, particularly since this isn't a project with a AAA budget. However, I do take exception to the author saying that Sonic Mania didn't bring anything new to that series, because it had numerous clever innovations and it also simply would not have been graphically possible on old hardware in spite of its pixel art styling.
