Pacific Rim

Okay... okay okay...
This looks amazing. It looks dumb as hell. But it also looks amazing.

It's motherfucking Robot Alchemic Drive in movie form! With the voice of Glados as the robot AI, the white bodysuit from Vanquish, Faith from Mirror's Edge, monsters from Earth Defense Force... probably other stuff I'm missing.
Guillermo del Toro's interest in videogames showing through in full force. I can't wait.
(if this was posted already, forgives me)

I am eager to find out what's this really about. Like several DelToro movies.

It's like if tey took Bays budget and love for CG and del toro's imagination. Inspiration from many games and anime and made American Anime the live action film.

I'm not as interested as you guys but I'll watch it anyway.

I rather support this then Transformers. Plus this paints the way to quality Mech movies.

Dear god this could be awesome. Guillermo del Toro is enough to get me interested and the trailer sold it for me.

I think that's kind of the intention, in a way. It doesn't look super-serious in the least. It looks like one big excuse to have a giant robot whipping monsters across the face with a luxury liner. It's obvious kitschy fun. It's a cartoon-, comicbook-, and videogame-obsessed kid all grown up, making a movie that would have appealed to his tastes when he was a ten-year-old.
I love that idea.

And I'm still impressed that they could get the kind of huge budget that this obviously has, without it being related to any previously-existing franchises, AND without it being made to appeal to lovesick teenage girls.
Thumbs up to del Toro for managing that.

It's like Evangelion without the deep plot or biblical references.

And thank god for that. Besides the End of Evangelion movie (which was pretty effing cool), the Eva series was boring as hell. I can always appreciate symbolism and depth in a story. Hell, I 'd prefer it if more were like that these days. But above all, a tv series or movie should be entertaining. And I just never got much in the way of entertainment out of Eva.

Is it me or is the robot with the boat bit first thing that comes to mind is Pyramid head. Just because of the angle and how he was dragging it.
