The story Ryo told to the kids in Guilin:

Postby Kiyuu » Fri Feb 04, 2005 2:50 pm

Do you remember what Ryo said when he was asked the reason for going to Bailu village
by one of the kids in Guilin? He said "Oni taiji (Ogre extermination)" in Japanese.

And, he was in trouble to explain what he meant exactly as there was a cultural gap.
What he said was based on "Momotaro (Peach boy)," one of the Japanese folklores.

Check Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momotaro

Here's the whole story: http://www.geocities.co.jp/HeartLand-Ga ... /momo.html

BTW, the typical "Oni" looks like this (disregard the woman in the right picture):

That's great.

Peach Ryo is sort of similar. He comes floating down the Yingshuihe, and goes on a quest to defeat someone. And, just like Peach Boy, he has no real family anymore.

Haha... yes, Ryo could make a good Momotaro! Momotaro brings back treasure! ;)

But, wasn't it Shenhua who came floating down the Yingshuihe? Oh, wait... it's the fawn!

BTW, I found an online picture book of the story in English:

Enjoy! :D

Yeah, I noticed that too when he spoke of ogre horns and such. Alludes back to ancient Japanese folklore and mythology.

If you want to get technical... ;)

Haha, the story is so deep. It's funny how those random animals address him by his name, though they don't know him at all.

By the way, I noticed he's called Momotarou (ももたろう/桃太郎) in Japanese. Why's there no ending 'u' at the end of the romanji version? They just felt it was unnecessary to include?

He must have been famous in the area, maybe? ;)

Hmm... difficult question. :? The same thing happens with "Ryo (りょう)," you know?
It's rather for English speakers, I guess. Both "ももたろう" and "りょう" end with
a long vowel, pronounced like "oh." In English "o" can be pronounced longer
as in "no" or "so," right? So, customarily, the last "u" is omited, maybe.

It's really the theme song of "Peach Boy." It has lyrics originally. You can listen to
the song here: http://www.neowing.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=KICW-8205

Choose either player for #5 "桃太郎" among the song list in that page. Enjoy! :D
