Just something to consider.
The first-person narrative is at odds with Ryo's somewhat uncommunicative demeanor. He probably expresses more in those two screens of exposition shown in the video than he does in two thirds of the original game. It changes how we think of him. He suddenly comes across as an articulate storyteller rather than the awkward and restrained Ryo that we're familiar with. While it might be intended to come from his older self, it's hard to portray that Wonder Years-style distinction when the narration is text-based.
Of course it's up to you, you can do what you want. I just thought I'd bring it up. But if I had to suggest an alternative, my first thought would be narrating the tale from the perspective of a different character reflecting on Ryo's now legendary adventure - perhaps an older Fangmei.
